Drove home from work, parked my '89 SHO in the garage, turned the key off, everything fine. 15 minutes later I start the car and the amber Oil Level light is on. I checked the dipstick and it shows full. I drive the car around for five minutes and the car seems fine. The red Low Oil Pressure light works normal (light is on for ~1.5 seconds after starting the car, then goes off).

Could this be a bad oil level sensor, or something else?

I would assume that at first. Does a failing one set off a code? If a faulty oil sensor or doesn't work then you have to look at mechanical failures

I would guess it is a bad sensor.

There is no code for low oil level.

Look at the wire first, but be prepared to at least remove and clean up your existing sensor.

These sensors appear to be very rare. I found a p/n F2AZ-6C624-A which may be the correct number, but I can't find it anywhere.
There are F2AZ-6C624-B on eBay for around $100.

Do you have access to a ford parts database or a good dealer parts person who will try and dig and find part numbers for you?

Did you try http://greensalescompany.com/ ? They mostly make you order by phone and the parts guy there may or may not be able to help. Also their prices on some items I ordered was not as high as I expected given how hard the parts were to find.

Bob Allen Ford http://www.boballenford.com/ in KS also has alot of obsolete parts and has 7 of the A and 5 of the B listed as instock on partsvoice.com the parts guy at the dealer should be able to verify if they sync up with 89. Unless that stuff has been somehow aged out and purged from the database but I don't think so.

Thanks, I will take a look at them. Oddly enough, the light is now out. I'll have my mechanic take a look at the connector when he installs the front strut tension rods.
