Whew, so I started down this rabbit hole to see if I was able to find some comparisons between the Amsoil EAO17 and the FL500s and it turned into The Matrix for sure.
So, I compiled some of the data that I found and discovered some interesting information and maybe even a new alternative. Keep in mind this data is from various sources that I tried to make equal as much as possible, so take it all with a grain of salt.
I tried to compare capacities but couldn't find information on some, so I went with calculating volume by using external dimensions. I realize this could be an inaccurate depiction as there are things going on internally that can effect that value, but it might be a DECENT overall indicator.
Looks to me like the Ford Racing FL820s (not the Motorcraft FL820s) might be a very viable improvement. Even over the Amsoil filters. Although I've been seeing the Amsoil equivalents being the EAO11=FL820s and the EAO17=FL500s. My concern would be gasket dimensions. I don't have one in front of me currently to see if the (only very slightly) larger gasket will fit on the oil filter manifold.
I will let the debate begin as some of this data seems a lot to digest and may have some effects on performance or operation that I can't foresee (different RVOP values, etc.)
