I own '92 and '95 SHO's. The '92 is hibernating in my garage as a spare vehicle. I recently purchased the OEM CD player for my '95 to use as a slave CD player in conjunction with my OEM radio. However, when attempting to install, I noticed that the back of the CD player had two ports, but I only have the harness for the port to run from the CD to the radio. It appears, from my Chilton Guide, that the other port is for a harness that should be coming out from underneath the dash, but I looked and can't find any unused harnesses. Did Ford install these harnesses even if the vehicle did not roll off the assembly line with a CD player(again, I don't see one inside the dash)? If not, how can I install the OEM CD player if the harness isn't there? I tried to get the CD player working with just the one harness running to the radio and it was a "no-go." Also, when running the harness from the radio to the CD player, the radio volume was dramatically decreased until I pulled the CD harness back out. Why? Obviously, I am not an electrical genius or I wouldn't be asking. Thanks!!

You need 2 wires. One is a power wire. It splits the power connector coming in and gives 2 outs - one going to the radio and one to go to the CD player.

The 2nd cable is the low level feed line. This line carries the music to the radio. The radio then in turn send it to the amps, etc.

There is also a little clip. This clip will have to be removed from the radio and installed in the OEM CD player. Its not a wiring harness, but a clip. Without moving this clip, the sound will no longer get amplified (aka your decrease in sound until you unplugged the other cable).

There are two additional harnesses needed when adding a OEM slave unit. The first is the power supply which plugs into the power harness from the dash then plugs into the slave unit and the radio. The second is the data cable which sounds like the one you have. There is also a ground jumper wire which I believe is usually taped to the data cable. Also, there is a small plug/jumper that need to be removed from the back of the stock radio after the slave unit is added. Let me know if you need additional help and I could snap a pic of the extra cables I have.

Brandon, thanks for the lightning quick reply. Just some clarification. Does the power wire plug into the single power connector and then branch off into two as you stated? If so, how can I get one? When I bought the harness that runs from the CD player to the radio, the guy told me that was all I needed. Also, that harness has a black wire with two slotted ends that simply fit over a metal notch on the back of both the CD and radio? Is that the clip you were referring to because the back of the CD player only has two ports plus the "notch" I described above. I'm probably doing a really poor job at describing my situtation. Thanks!

Thanks, Matt. A picture would be great. Where can I get that power supply wire that plugs into both the radio and CD?

The black wire you were reffering to is the ground wire. I'll be back in ten with a pic. I'll see if my Dad wants to part with one of the extras and I'll let you know.

No prob.

The power wire that I have is basically a Y. It clips into the existing power harness and branches into 2 power harnesses with clips. The 1st plugs into the same location as the power wire was before and the 2nd plugs into the cd player.

There is a clip (gray I believe) that has a little push button on the side just like the other connectors to remove it. You will have to remove this clip from the radio that you had into the CD player. (The CD player you got may have come with one installed already...dont know.)

As for the one wire being all you need...you were mis-informed or the seller was mis-informed. You do indeed need both and the movement of the clip.

Lets see if Matt comes through and grabs a few pics. If not, I will try and grab a couple when I get home. I have an extra radio,cd player, both cables, and a few other extras.

The cable on the left is the power and the one on the right is the data.
Radio001

The plug goes into the upper right most slot.
Radio005

As far as parting with the power cable my Dad said he would but didn't give a price. Make an offer on it if you can't find one locally.

Matt, thanks again. I do in fact have the data wire, but not the y-type power wire. I also have the clip that you pictured, but unless I am mistaken, you have to pull that out of the radio and plug one end of the data wire into that port and the other end into the back of the CD player, right? Therefore, isn't the clip eliminated altogether? I bought the data wire(s) for $15, will that work for your power cable as well?
Thanks again!

The clip is not eliminated all together. It comes out of the radio and goes into the CD player I do believe as it was installed in the factory CD player of the one I have.

Sorry for being so clueless, but then where do you plug the other end of the data cable into if you are putting the clip into the back of the CD player?
Again, the back of the CD player has 2 ports. One, as I have now learned, is for the split power wire. If the other takes the clip that is now in the back of the radio, where does the other end of the data wire go? Doesn't it go from the back of the CD to the back of the radio? Thanks!!

I likewise am struggling with the same issue as young grasshopper....If one plugs the clip into the cd player...where does the data cable plug go? The rest all makes sense...other than I too will need a power cable....Any one out there in SHO land have one gathering dust and willing to part with....??? Please let me know and $$. At this point I've got so much invested to turn back now.....in retrospect I could have had a decent aftermarket system installed for less money. ...but then again where would the fun be in that eh!?

Is there anyone still available on this thread to answer a question or three? I hope to have the data cable soon and the power cable is still in our 93. Ive yet to pull the head unit (JBL OEM system) as I'm just waiting on the data cable to arrive. My two questions are: 1) If I don't get the right cable where can I get one? 2) Am I correct in thinking I have to remove the back plates of both the head unit and CD player to relocate the 'plug'? 3) It looks like there are two other plugs on the data cable....where do they attach?

Nope. It had been over 9 years since this thread had a post.
