Re did the rear valve cover today, it was leaking. Anyway, now the car runs like crap at idle. The engine rocks alot more than usual. I'm thinking vacuum leak. Sound right?

Also, is it possible for the intake to be tightened down fully, with no visible space between the runners and the head, but still have a leak there. It was all the way down on the head before I bolted it on, but it would rock ever so slightly before it was bolted. No gaps now though.

It does seem as if extra air is getting in somewhere. Any ideas where. I'm hoping this is a common problem.

Did you loosen all the connections to the 'snakes' on the intake before bolting it down? Helps it flatten out.

Spit or drip some water at each runner-to-head connection. If there is a leak, it will get sucked into the motor and the RPMs will change. Do this with the runners to tanks couplers also.

Yeah, I was thinking that or WD 40. That's the wat you track it down on a diesel anyway. Don't think it warped the manifold do you?

I'm having the exact same problem today. Took my manifold apart to put the BBB in and the P&P intake manifold, put it all together and it won't sit right until it's bolted down.
Started her up and it idles bad and the CEL came on for a sec when I backed her out the garage.

I tighten everything down before I set the manifold on the engine though, so I'll losen it back up and try it again tomorrow.

Well it seems to be a fluke. I've tried to replicate the problem, but I can't. And I can't find the leak.

Oh well, guess the SHO gods are smiling today :D

Me too! Took the manifold off and loosen all the clamps and remounted it and it idles perfect!

Too bad my front bank of butterfly seems to be sticking and I'm hearing a knock/tick near the back of the engine... I hope it's just bad gas and not a valve.

Possibly, but you don't use very much. Just a small squirt. If there is a leak, it will cause the engine to rev a little higher than normal. It's pretty standard when working on a diesel, never tried it on a gas engine, but I imagine the small quantity would be too little to do much at the cats.
