It's just that, a noisemaker. As air passes through it, it's supposed to make your car sound more throaty. I'd definitely recommend removing it as it presents an opportunity for air to leak.

That aftermarket pipe should be fine if you want to spend the cash. Or, for about $10 just fill the hole with a Dorman plug. Check my old posts. Somewhere a long time ago, I posted the Dorman part #. I've been using it for years with no issues.

I happened to be close to the factory part in the shop when I noticed this post. Here's the hole size you need to fill when you remove it.5d1759a89040bdba88537c159dc645f6

No. A BOV let's unused boost circulate to the atmosphere (swoosh noise). Our turbos recirculate the unused boost so it doesn't have to rebuild it.

A noisemaker is similar to the ecoboost Mustangs playing exhaust sounds through the radio. It's fake engine noise created by sound traveling through the tube.

You're welcome.

That Dorman plug is a 02602 or 02603. I can't remember which one, as I ordered both. One fit and I tossed the other in a junk drawer.

Just to be 100 percent positive I’m just popping this off and capping it?

Yep. Wipe the inside of the hole clean and maybe gently scuff the outside of the Dorman so they adhere together. Pop it in and tighten the plug.

I installed a pipe for a lincoln that doesn't have the noisemaker. I can't remember what I paid for the pipe but it was less than $100 I think. The pipe is a perfect fit for the sho.

I saw the video about that. It robs power and those things are notorious for blowing off. And you'll notice oil where it sprays out if you run it like that long term. Good luck.

What would be better for a VTA Mod? I’ve heard great things about the chair knobs

You can get a real BOV if you want but it's still going to waste power. Our cars are designed to recirculate boost. If you blow it out, the car has to build more boost.

Really not trying to pick a fight but venting to atmosphere in no way robs power. Leave a slight oily mist, sure. Over 50K miles later, nothing a paper towel can’t handle.

Yeah recirculating dirty, hot air back into the cold air leads to carbon buildup and warmer air intake temps.

With a BOV, you're expelling built boost. So you have less on hand for acceleration. Help me understand how that doesn't rob power. I never did this because of that reason.

It isn't more "power" per se. It can lead to faster recovery/less turbo lag. How much? Probably negligible on our platform. With how small our turbos are, they spool fairly quickly anyways. Personally, I kept mine. I tried the VTA and did not get much noise out of it. Probably because it is designed for a quiet cabin anyways. I also like the idea of any little advantage of keeping the turbos spooled up. My personal preference was deleting the noisemaker and keeping the recirc. I even kept them when I went to the EPP intake.

Maybe "power" was the wrong term. Boost lag is more appropriate. I never did it because I didn't want to negatively affect the cars ability to accelerate faster. Thanks.
