I posted about a rattling noise coming from the accessory belt area a few days ago. After finally taking my belt off and spinning the idler pulley near the alternator, I found that it made no noise, it just spun freely. But after spinning the water pump pulley, I found that it sounded like it was rubbing against something, just like disc brake pads locking onto the rotor. Is my bearing in the water pump going out is a little rubbing noise normal?

Sounds like the water pump is on it's way out.A little noise is not that bad, however it should actually make no noise and be relatively stiff to turn,at least that's my experience with new ones.

If that's the case, I hope it doesn't go out for a while. I don't really want to replace it, it sounds like a big job!

Water Pump is definately on its way out. Inquire whether or not to perform the 60K at this time. At LEAST replace the CPS if nothing else.
