Well, I let the car sit for about 2 months without starting it, and I went out the other day and tried to give it a start, and while it did crank over, it didn't want to start. I started to investigate and here is what I came up with...

94 ATX

-The fuel pump will not kick on. (the fuel pump is fine, I hot wired it and it works)
-I am getting spark (tested it)
-the check engine light is not working. (I think I killed the computer when I hot wired the pump, it was working when I started though.)
- the IRCM is making a loud clicking sound (never heard it before, but I never paid attention before.)

I haven't had the chance to try a different computer or IRCM yet because, well I have no extra computer, and I am not sure if the IRCM I have will work in my car (don't remember if it came from a 90 I parted or the 93 ATX..)

so I think what started out as a bad IRCM (at least thats what I am hoping) ended up being a Computer and the IRCM...

anyone else have some idea for me to check out.

The fuel pump relay is contained in the IRCM (aka. CCRM). It may be the fuel pump relay that is clicking, and thus not allowing the fuel pump to get power.

One way to check, would be to check for power at the harness lead going to the inertia cutoff switch. You can also give the CCRM a good wack with a screwdriver, as that will sometimes temporarily "correct" the problem.

Power to the fuel pump goes [ fuel pump relay (CCRM) > inertia cutoff switch > fuel pump ] Okay, that's over simplified, but shows the component flow that enables the fuel pump.

So, you still at Bell Tire (sp?)

well, I am not getting power to the cutoff switch, thats why I tried to hot wire the fuel pump (but I have a bad feeling that backfired on me) and the fuel pump did start and build pressure, but I think it either blew the fuse for the ECU, or just burned out the ECU. (haven't checked yet, I am proabably going out there tonight and checking out more things. I was so mad by the time I figured out the ECU light was out, that I just walked away.

the other question I had since we are talking about the IRCM, is the wiring into the IRCM basiclly the same thoughout all the years? I have a service manual for a 92, so if the wiring is close, I should be able to figure it out.

And about belle, I ended up quitting there over a year ago when some family things were going on. and besides....they were pretty stingy with raises compared to some other tire places around.

Well, some new info/problems

I found 2 IRCM's in the junk yard that was the right letter (mine is a J, was able to get 2 J's) Well, got them and also found another good computer. Went to put both in, and nothing. and using a ATX computer does not seem to work (check engine light refuses to come on, but with a MTX computer the check engine light works and the car tried to fire.)

so I am not sure if the IRCM is the problem now.

I guess my questions now are...are there any fusible links and where are they? and what else would cause the car not to work with a ATX computer, but will with a MTX computer. and would a bad cam position or even the DIS module (even though I tested that about 2 months ago as good) cause all this (everything else is new.)

anything else I should be looking at?

don't everyone speak at once now? I tried searching, but everything I have read so far did not point to the same problems I am having.

Sorry man I have never had to deal with this issue but would suggest checking all wiring and grounds that I could find. Maybe re-test your DIS and CPS again good luck!

replaced the DIS and cam position sensor today with no difference. the only thing left I can think of is to replace the wiring harness for the ECU....if that doesn't work I am probably going to beat the car to death, don't know what else to do. I have been wanting a 5 speed, so it might be a good time to start working on that.

but same problem, it will try to fire with the MTX computer (fuel Pump still doesn't work), but doesn't fire with the ATX computer.

Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for a 94 ATX? the diagrams that used to be on here I can't find, and the ones I found suck.

BTW, Wiring is not my strong suit...... so if anyone has any tips for me on what to check, you have to explain it slowly, like your talking to a 5 year old....and how to check it....and I might be able to figure it out.

try hard wiring the inertia switch. if you have spark the DIS, CAM sensor, and crank sensor are okay. if any of these sensor's are bad=no spark.

the only problem is that I know the injectors are not firing.. I know I can make the fuel pump work, but I can't make the injectors work (thats why I am not understanding the ECU problem)

I checked voltage at the connector underneath the carpet by the drivers seat and I got a reading of .3 something volts.

not sure what else to check.

Eric, both mini fuse's are ok.......and the second option is starting to look good the longer it takes to fix it.
