No start without jump starter

I have a weird situation with my '91 SHO MTX. I turn the key to try and start the car and I get no power what so ever (even when the key is turned just to the on position). I checked the battery and it's got a charge. I check the posts--it's making connection. I put a jump starter on it and turn the key and it starts right up and runs just fine.

Any idea what would cause that?

How old is the battery? Been regularly fully charged? Cold Cranking Amps? Alternator voltage output?

Brand new battery. It's not the battery, though, because I'd have power in the car when the key's on. There's zero power, so somehow, the car and the battery aren't making connection even though the posts are clean.

have the battery load-tested. it sounds like it has an issue where it holds voltage but does not have any power capacity. yes, I know you said it is new, but there are infant failures possible in everything.

I'll have it load tested, but even if it doesn't hold a charge, that wouldn't account for it now giving any power whatsoever when the key is in the accessory or on position. That's what's got me confused. I'll clean the posts and connectors again to make sure I didn't mindlessly clean the posts and forget the connectors.

Problem solved.

My fault. I shouldn't have checked the connections while I was in a hurry to get somewhere. Everything looked clean, and I usually clean the posts and connectors when I install a new battery...but I forgot that I wasn't the one who installed the battery recently.

Apparently, whoever installed it didn't clean the connectors or posts, and I guess the cold, rainy weather recently didn't help either.

Cleaned them up and it starts just fine.
