Ok I just picked up a 95 atx..
I dont know much info on the car at all.

The car is cranking over but will not start.
The car has fuel and spark.

The tach goes up to about 500 while cranking. We also put a little starting fluid in here to see what it would do. Didnt even chug or try to start at all..

Motor seems to be turning over fine. Any sugestions..?

Possible timing? Thanks

Also there are new plugs in the car. We pulled the front 3 plugs out and they were all firing fine. We sprayed starting fluid in each cylinder. We tried to crank it back over with no luck of anything. No back fire, no chug, nothing just keeps cranking..

any codes? could be CPS, you could pull the upper timing belt cover and check if that is on, then i guess a compression check.

Finally found a SHO Ryan? Excellent!
The injectors are told to pulse by the computer, but I think they are a ground side switch. If you have a spare D4UI, try swapping that out, and check all of the engine grounds. Now, you say it has fuel? Just at the schrader valve on the fuel rail? And how did you check for spark?

How does the cadence of the cranking sound? If it sounds unusually smooth or without the usual distinct rhythmic stuttering sound of the starter working against compression that usually indicates that the timing is off.

Starting fluid won't work.

You need to test to make sure you're getting spark and fuel at the cylinder. Just because you're getting fuel pressure at the schrader valve (fuel rail), does not mean it's being delivered to the cylinders. If you haven't tested the injectors, buy or borrow a set of "noid" lights that are specifically designed to test the injectors to ensure it's getting the proper pulse and allowing gas into the cylinders.

And this is a great little tool for checking spark at the plug, while leaving the plug in:

If you're getting fuel, spark, and have proper fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Next try pulling the oxygen sensors and trying to start with the sensors removed. If it starts, the cats may be plugged.

no, you won't have spark if the CPS is out. And I think my other reply was deleted?

Yea my buddy was going to bring the noid lights home from work. I wont be able to check that untill at least monday if not later. What cause the injector pulse to come on?

If it was the timing belt it probably tore the teeth off at the crank. You might be able to take off the lower timing cover and look for belt schrapnel.

Either way, the first thing I would reccommend any new "DIY" SHO owner check out is the crank bolt and keyway...even if it's runnin'.

Any CE light? Check for codes?

Have you tried pumping the gas pedal (IAB/IAC not opening) or holding down the gas pedal (car is flooded) to see if it tries to start?

Just wanting to try the easy stuff first...and go from there.

Buy a new starter

Buy a new starter. If your lights come on and the engine goes to turn, its probably the starter. I had this problem a month or two ago. After I instaed the car fired right up.

The starter is located on the front of the motor in the middle and is easy to find and replace. If you take the starter to Autozone, they will test it for free and I think may even give you a core for it.

PS Make sure you get the right one (3.0, 3.2), I had to make two trips.

Where are all the grounds located at?

The only one I can think off of hand is the one on the rear of tha intake.

Also if the ground came off will it still have spark though? Because I am getting that.

Thanks guys, I really want to get this thing going..

wow wow wow. diving into this problem pretty deep. did you check the wires firing order? i like to start at the cheaper things first. this is what is weird. its getting spark, good cps correct? if your spray starter fluid in, and it turns over you should get some noise. thats why firing order sounds like a possibility but i figure you would get a noise. could a bad mass air flow and bad o2 sensors cause it to not start? and thank you will sho u for a great comment above. the car IS cranking which means good starter
