Well Jim(shoracer14) put a new rebuilt tranny in his car. Everything got buttoned back up and there is no power to the car. When the motor was hooked to the engine holder something happened and the driver side dropped down a little bit.

Any ideas where to start? He really need it ready for the convention.

Ya beat me to it......The engine just decided to shift out of nowhere, don't really know why. We have used the engine holder that we were using before without any problems. The battery has power, we tested that first. We first thought we had the two wires on the starter backwards. Pulled the starter back out, switched the wires. Connected the battery and the starter kicked on. So the wires were right the first time. Pulled it back out and switched the wires and reinstalled it. Thats where we ended, no troubleshooting other than that being it was like 5:30 AM and we were both exhausted. Suggestions, comments all welcome. TIA

Do you mean no power whatsoever or no cranking power? If its no cranking power, and if the tranny is an ATX, did you make sure it was in park? I know it sounds dumb, but I had to "rescue" my GF one time because her car just wouldn't start for some reason and lo and behold it was in gear!

Did you guys check the fuses in the engine bay and the fusible links?

Beth... I took a quick tired look at some of the fuses and they looked fine. My dad gave me a light tester to try and test were I have power and were I don't. Is there a main fuse? WHen I had my honda I blew a main fuse once and the symptoms are identical. Thanks to Ryan and Chris for getting this posted. I just got home. I hate work. I will call both of you in a little while, I need a little nap before I go tearing into this damn car again.

Well, the first thing is to check and see if you have power from the battery to the starter relay and from the relay to the starter. I'm not really familiar with how the Gen 2 starter is configured in that department. I know it's attached to the starter..... With the wires attached the right way to the starter ( :p ) does the starter crank the engine?

Gosh this sounds so similar to what happened to me last year. :oogle:

Find and check all the fusible links also. You'll need a volt meter. Check for power to those. Pull the fuses out and look at them to make sure they're good to go. I think they may also have the little slots on the backside of them so you can test them in place as well, but to me there's nothing better than seeing it for yourself.

I think you've got a fusible link issue honestly. No lights, no power inside, no crank......it adds up.

This one is for Beth especially. The threads where the VSS goes were stripped and he has no speedo. Is there anyway to maybe swap that?

Yes, it should come out quite easily. Take the little bolt out then pry up on the VSS driven gear housing. Take the one out of his old trans and put that one in.
