No heat from vents on the passenger side.

So for the first time this year we used the heater in my 2016. There was a ton of heat on the driver side but none on the passenger side. With the split temperature controls in the car I have to assume there is a heater box on each side that can be individually controlled. Is the most likely cause a bad valve to open the flow to the heater box on the side that's misbehaving or are there other issues known to cause this before I start digging through the dashboard or crawling through the glove box?

Blend door actuator. Sounds like the "easy" one behind the glove box.

Check your coolant level as well.

I looked at the coolant level immediately. It's fine.
Is there more information on what I'm doing to the blend door actuator somewhere? I assume it's a vacuum actuator of some sort. Is that correct? Am I just going to need to R&R it with a new one from Ford?

I would just do a new one. I've replaced the passenger one on each of my Tauruses now. Only like $30 and super easy, staring right at you when you take the glove box off.

It is behind the glove box but unfortunately it’s not the one staring right at you, it’s the one to the left buried behind that nice big wire harnes, black plastic, and heater hoses. Ask me how I know.

Here is my thoughts, buying online I get a good price, but returns are crazy - many times you are left holding the bag to ship, and for those cheap prices the OEM parts places charge a huge premium for shipping.

At a local dealership, I might pay more, however its their problem if its the wrong part. Ask me how I know...


Q: Is this part ONLY for the passenger side location behind the glove box? Is the actuator on the driver's side the same part or a different one? If different, could you provide that part number?


A: AA5Z-19E616-C is used on both the right and left side.

DOUBLE CHECK with Dealership, but with your VIN, they should get you the correct part. Its $30

Is there a write-up, youtube video or something I can use for guidance on getting this done before I take apart stuff I don't need to take apart? I'm normally a "if all else fails, read the instructions" sort of guy, but I'm breaking the trend on this one.

And Amazon sent me the wrong part. The amazon sticker on the bag has the correct PN on it, but it was covering up the PN printed on the ford bag. When I saw the part behind the dash, I knew something was wrong. I peeled off the sticker and the number on the bag was a YH-2060-1X. So I'm giving them another try to get me the correct one tomorrow.
@Zpak how do you know it's the one buried in the wiring and if it is, any helpful hints for getting to it? It looks like a real PITA. I'm finding nothing to help me on the interweb.

If you have your heat working on the driver side but the passenger side is cold, it’s the one that’s buried.

As for tips, I did that in 2018 I believe so the memory banks are a bit foggy. But, I know I ended up cutting the plastic off and just leaving it off. I believe it was because of one bolt that I just gave up on. Never had any issues because of it.

Just prepare to be a contortionist. Maybe a bit of tape on the end of the socket to hold the screws while you awkwardly finagle them back in. Good luck.

I got it done without cutting the box. Only the "tree" holder was cut to allow some movement. It took a LONG TIME to figure this out. But I was determined not to take the inside of my car apart to get to it.

You know this is a stupidly difficult procedure when you call the Ford dealer for an estimate, and they never call you back!

If anyone needs any hints on doing this, let me know. Maybe I can save you several hours of you life.
