A feeler gauge or, I think some use a business card folded in half, etc. just to set the gap the shutter wheel on the crankshaft. If you're getting spark and a 111, I don't know that it would be the issue, but it's something to check.

it is not going to be out of time - that is computer controlled.

the only way to screw up the timing is to remove the little stamped steel shutter piece that fits on under the cam sensor and put it back on half a turn off.

the crank sensor is tricky to get installed properly - the magnet will try to clamp itself to the shutter wheel on the crank, which will result in too large of top gap, no bottom gap, and a destroyed crank sensor in a very short time. If you are not sure you gapped it properly, you need to check that.

However, since you say you have spark, the crank sensor is still working.

Now, just because you hear the fuel pump run for a second when you turn on the key does not mean you have fuel pressure. The fuel pump running does not have to equal fuel pressure. So you need to confirm that you have fuel pressure.

After you know you have fuel pressure, you need to confirm you actually have fuel in the cylinders. If you have been cranking the car without it starting, you should have plugs that are wet from fuel. In fact, you might need to remove them and clean them before it will want to start.

Check those things and let us know what you find.

Thanks for posting the vid. Sounded a bit wheezy to me when trying to start. Definitely check the voltage on the battery.

Make sure wiring on coil pack is correct (could get backfiring if not):

Fuel pressure should hold, follow up on rubydist's post.

Plenty of posts on here re checking/setting timing, but again, the shophoenix site is a good pictorial start as is http://www.emprepcourse.com/sho/id13.html. Could be a stripped timing belt, for example, esp if you say the car was running well before this no start.

Sounds to me like the timing is off. Line up the all the dots, pull the upper timing cover, and rotate the crankshaft until the dots on each cam gear line up with the indentions in the rear timing cover...then there is a mark on the edge of the crankshaft pulley that will line up somewhere with the timing marks on the lower timing cover.

A stock engine is non-interference, so if the timing belt/timing is the issue, nothing is messed up.

Trying to start it with the pedal to the floor won't help much, only if it's flooded - when the PCM sees WOT it cuts the fuel to the injectors.

You would be better off with the stock airbox as well...

I don't hear the engine firing at all in that video.

Please work your way through the steps in post #25 and report back.

There is a ground strap to the firewall that needs to be shined-up and tightened. The little bolts that hold your DIS to the intake need to be clean and well tightened as they ground that part (might be the bottom two).
Get a buddy, pull a plug and see it there is much spark at the plug gap when you roll it over.
That's all I got.

hehe.. I just did my crank sensor. Yup 0.030" gap between pickup and ring. I had a difficult start problem too. I replaced all ignition parts. Turned out to be, ultimately, and bad cranksensor, by a small leak in the water pump. As when I got it running, it died out for no apparent reason.

Try some starter fluid. No crank sensor, no fuel delivery. (or so i was told). 1 second burst behind air cleaner. Should fire and run for a few seconds.

How important is the gap clearance from the sensor point? I mean can it just be close or does it need to be perfect for the sensor to work?
