Hey guys,
I just bought a 95 ford MTX sho 3.0 about a week ago and about 4 days ago I shut it off and it wouldn't start back up. I checked for spark I had no spark so I went and changed the cam and crankshaft position sensors. I now have spark but the car still wont start. it will turn over allllll day haha but you can tell it wants to start but it wont. also while cranking when it tries to start it back fires. any ideas guys I will make a video and post it to youtube then share the link. is it possible its out of time also.

I assume you have pulled codes? That's the 1st thing that needs to be done. Please post them when you have them. http://www.shophoenixproject.com is a good reference.

You may have a flooded engine, so you could try to start while holding the gas pedal all the way down to cut off any more fuel flow. Checked fuel pressure at the rail?

Verified that your DIS is securely connected, and that it is working properly? I believe a local AutoZone or Advance Auto should have a tester for it.

You went to all the trouble to change out the crank sensor ONLY? Brave man! That's usually done during a front 60K.

Unfortunately, I am in Silver Spring, MD about 4 hrs from you :( I see you have also done performance plugs wires and coil pack. Would you mind listing exactly what you changed there? Brands, part numbers, etc. When did you make the change (relative to the problems with starting)? SHOs are picky about all 3 of those things, and we generally don't muck around with them. If lucky, that could be the root of the problems right there!

Take the 2 bolts that hold the crossover section of intake on(the section of intake the DIS is mounted to) and swap them. Chances are when you put the car back together you failed to get a good ground for the DIS. Those 2 bolts are grounds. Do that and see if it starts. Post back what happens.

Ya, get to know the grounds on this car. It will serve you well.

Plenty of discussion on plugs/wires on this forum. Net is that most people are running Motorcraft or Autolite-equivalent plugs, and Motorcraft or AC Delco wires. The stock coil doesn't really have a good substitute, you can get "nused" ones from RCM Automotive or from members of this forum through the WTB section. I think even in supercharged or turbo'd applications, only the plugs are changed, that's how good the stock stuff is. Some on this forum have done a Coil on Plug conversion too, if you are interested in doing so.

Look at this page http://www.shophoenixproject.com/eec/eec.htm

Even though you can't get the car to start, you should be able to get the KOEO (Key On Engine Off) codes that are already stored. It's just a matter of jumpering the pins on the underhood EEC connector as shown and then counting the number of flashes on the CEL. This diagnostic will cycle so if you miss a code the first time, not to worry.

Just don't disconnect the battery before you run this diagnostic, otherwise the codes might be cleared.

My schedule (and my current lack of transportation) prevents me from being onsite :( But posting a video of the CEL flashes and closeup pics of your underhood status could very help open up this thread to more people for their input.

Dont just check to see if those bolts are tight. Literally remove them and swap them. One bolt is a little longer than the other and you could have them swapped. Do that just tp rule it out.

Did you pull the intake all the way off at all? Did you gap the crankshaft sensor correctly?

I know you said you have fuel pressure...does the FP prime when you turn the key to on?

If you have fuel, and spark, then it's gotta be out of time...
