I am a recent first time SHO owner. From the limited driving I've done with it so far, I really like it. I do have a major problem however. I bought the car and the guy said it needed a new altenator. No problem, put on a new one. Drove it around a day or two and it died. Bought a new battery and drove it around and died again. Long story short, the battery is not getting charged by the altenator. The altenator is good. It's been tested by two different places. It's putting out 14V and the right amperage, just the battery is not getting charged. I've got it at a mechanics now cause I didn't have time to work on it, but it's been 3 days and they can't seem to find the problem.
Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. :thumb:

Bad battery cables or alt to starter wire is just a guess. They may also need to be cleaned up too.

I replaced the battery cables and that didn't help. The shop just called me and told me that they think it has something to do with a wire that connects to the battery light behind the dash. Sounds like a bunch of crap to me. They want to take the whole dash out and apart and I told them not to touch the car anymore. Anybody heard of anything like this before?

Was the alternator tested on the car? If so what is the battery voltage when the engine is running? It should be at a minimum of 13.6V at idle. If the alternator test good on the car but the battery is not getting the juice then the fuse links in the alternator output wire are blown.

I bet that's it dude! :thumb: When I bought the car, it needed a new altenator. The one wire that connects to it, not the plug, was stripped and the old altenator stud was broken. He said it shorted on that one day and blew the main fuse. I'm sure it probably screwed up the links too if it made it that far. Any idea where the fuseable links are on the wire?

There are two of them and they are on the output wire and either go to the engine compartment fuse box or the battery. Depending on what year you have.

Thanks again SHOZ123 for the diagrams and help. It wasn't the fusible link, but one of the wires coming from the fuse box that has the fusible link on it had somehow corroded away. I spliced in a new wire, crimp a new end on, and I'm on the road charging fine. Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone!
