Hey guys I finally got my HPFP installed today that I ordered from Gear Head. So had a few dilemmas along the way suck as there are zero videos or instructions on this thing. The closest thing I could find was a video from 5 years ago and either I have the wrong pump or they have updated the design. Mine came with a L shaped tip for my upper hose to connect to. They used to include a new fuel line in the kit but mine did not have that it had a 2 end thread on bend and a clip on fuel connector. These attach to the L shaped tip and connect to your original Fuel line. Bottom line threads right on after you remove your throttle body bolts (4 8mm) then loosen a 5/16’s nut to give this line some wiggle room to line up and thread on nut with hand at first then tighten its a 17mm.

My question may seem silly but does anyone know if the design has been updated or should there be a new fuel line and they sent me wrong pieces is this even the right pump for my car? Or am I just paranoid?

Also if you would like full installation and removal instructions posted let me know and I will make them as it was much different from anything I could see on YouTube

Pretty sure they have been updated throughout the years.

so I just went thru the XDI and sounds like yours was the same. there is an XDI video on their site, however... this pump has changed and doesn't come with the e30 line you need to pay for the Eva connector. I have my e30 sensor but haven't performed the job for e30 yet. the hpfp was a huge pita and didn't go in nicely, I have YT videos I made along the way. if you have an xdi I feel your pain and confusion. I bought the Eva connector and gotta say very concerned if I have all the right parts.

Yeah I can send u a pic of mine in the morning and see if mine is the same as yours. I installed few days ago and went straight to gas station on damn near Empty. Filled up with E-30 mixture and turned tune on. It has ran great so far and no dash lights but I am a straight up DIY mechanic since my step dad owned a large shop as a kid I grew up around cars my entire life but some of these things I’m venturing into now are very new to me. I’m hoping this is all on correct and operating properly.

here is mine, sharing for you and others, the pump went thru a redesign and the low pressure stainless steel connector was much of a problem. till this day I question its safety and hope the ECA will work as i expect, here ya go

My Grief

The XDI site

This is supposed to connect to the other end of the stainless steel line my video is complaining about, then over to the passenger strut tower where the sensor needs to be added.

I see what u mean @kryptto on the website, your video unfortunately is private but I didn’t put in a sensor I just straight eyeballed it with it being on Empty I put 13.5 gallons 93 and the rest E-85. Our tanks are 19 gallons in all so 13.3 is 70% and then the rest E-85. I know it’s not the most accurate way but pretty close for the time being

so it's important to point out there is summer E85 and winter E85, that sensor will help with making sure your gas is as close to the proper mix. I assume you will be manually testing with water testers?

Not trying to hijack the string but... you said our cars have a 19 gallon tank. Everywhere I read says 19 gallons too. I've had my car down to single digits to empty a few times (according to the dash) and have only been able to squeeze in 17 gallons. I know my car is Canadian (ask me about buying extra sets of LED headlights). Anyone know if Canadian cars have a smaller tank?

Your low fuel warning and DTE is a little generous. Most of the rides I see on E at the dealership I work at have a gallon or two of buffer to work with. That doesn't mean you should go and abuse it though. Lol

I've thought carrying the 2 gallon can with me and one time running it till it runs out out of pure curiosity, but im deathly afraid of push button start and repriming the fuel system. I don't know enough a out any of it... if it was like my '68 beetle baja I would run it till it was bone dry, splash some gas and crank it over twice and it would fire right back up lol

@kryptto im in Vegas so the likely hood of winter E-85 here is slim but no I’m gonna be honest just straight winging it. When I got tune from Matt he said it’s good for E30-E40 so being spot on wasnt a huge concern. With that said I was using it just to try to keep temp down with this summer heat. In winter I’ll just use straight 93. I have now gotten ahold of a gearhead intercooler and will be getting that job done over next month if time permits. This along with new hot pipes will help as my originals are all kinda shot.

Overall my goal is to have a fun quick underestimated car. I chose this platform because I am 6’ 5” and 240lbs with a wife and 2 kids so a two door was out of the question and I had already had my fun with the srt8 platform. Going to put the basic bolt on’s and maybe shed a little weight with hood etc.

Do you still have your stock turbos or have u upgraded them already?

So when I did this job I parked my car with it as low as I could possibly manage to get it, I let her idle until it began to die. I then filled a small gas can and put just enough in to get car started once pump was swapped for new one. Then tuned car for AO with HPFP, primed system for like 5 mins straight. Fired up and went straight to gas station, it’s 100 yards from my house. I then pumped the 13.3 of 93 and as much as I could of E-85. I don’t remember exactly how much it took but once I couldn’t possibly fit no more in the tank I got in and Retuned car for E-30 tune and had no problems so far and definitely feel a significant difference from original fuel pump and AO tune. With this being my first shot at this I leaned more toward getting the 93 amount right more than the E-85.

Got to see video and yes mine was like yours but the thing I did to get mine to line up to finally be able to thread on was taking the little nut all the way out that holds the line giving me more room to maneuver it once connected I had fun getting that little nut back on though. What I thought would be a 20 min job was not

stock, been thinking about something else. money is something in the way, with the reality of running more ethanol, and pushing the stock limits when will I need better injectors? then the stress on stock engine... you know the rat hole.

to your point yes I hated that post was hooking the stainless piping and not letting it go. I finally used my thumb and palm to angle it on....... let's say very not ideal.

According to GH you only need to change injectors if wanting to run pure E-85 other than that if yours are working fine I wouldn’t bother them until one sh*t’s the bed. I’ve heard that’s a fun job like my PTU experience.
I have a good chunk of money as my father passed away recently and I was his only surviving son and he never remarried.
My problem is time! I never have enough time to do the work as I am a kitchen manager at a buffet in Vegas, so it’s balls to the walls 6 days a week and my one day off my kids or wife always have plans lol. But eventually I will get the time I need to get it all done. I have 2 other vehicles so prob going to park this one and begin the Intercooler job this weekend.

I’m hoping with just doing basic bolt ons I won’t have to go in deep with this build but we will see.
