new windsheild

I found a sho at a local dealership. its an 89, and pretty well beat. the only thing that really worries me is that it needs a new windsheild bad. would I be best off just to take it to a car window shop?
What would i expect to pay for replacing my windsheild? and what are my other options???

Windshields in Canada can be had for around $200 so I'm betting your cost stateside should be quite a bit less. And yes have it professionally done!!!

My Canadian windshield was $140CAD installed.....I think it is the cheapest thing I have replaced.

Yeah, I got a quote for $120 installed on my 92. This was in Brooklyn.

I made money when i replaced my windshield, the insurance company gave me 575 bucks and i got it for 175 installed at a local glass shop

My parents own a Glass shop in Rhode Island. One time when i was there i priced out a windshield for my car and it came out to about $330.00 but thats for a gen II, but gen I's have the same windshield anyway, right? 330 might seem like alot, but believe someone who knows, those $140 windshield's are not correctly installed and the glass may even be cheaper than something my parents would install. I'm not telling you that only parents are right on this, but an incorrectly installed windshield will seriously affect your car's ability to withstand a crash the way it was designed to, as it is a structural part of the body, and it just may leak in a few months or a year, if not right after you get the car back. But anyway, if you can get it cheap just make sure that they have a good reputation, and don't call one of those "we will come to you" vans, there crap. Thanks for reading my rant!

Definatly pay someone to put it in. Someone screwed up the install on my truck I recently purchased and it leaks like crazy. Now it smells. Just my .02

I second what Spazmoid said. In a former life, I was an auto glass tech.

Gen I and II Taurus windshields should be left to the pros.
Unfortunately, the pros screw up a lot too.
Take your car to a glass shop. Leave it with them. tell them to take their time with it. Do not let them come to you. The mobile installer will most likely be loaded down with work and will do a hurry-up, hack-n-slash job.
