So heres my story, I know a lot of you have talked to Justin Mcclusky, Ive known him almost all my life have always had a love for SHOs and would hangout with him even when I was like 8 year old and help and watch with what I could when he would work on his white car, so anyways bought car regulator had failed in alternator car saw about 15.5 volts so went to his house swapped out alternator and all is well there but now I have an intermittent no spark, I also have multiple DIS and coils I got along with car when car stalled on me the first time only thing changed was DIS and car immediately started ran fine for a few days then stalled again and when not starting check engine light does stay lit and after the second or third time It stalled I swapped coils and it still wouldn't start and the only thing I did that time was swap between multiple dis modules and unplugged and unplugged and replugged crank sensor so i know the new coil on it is good because it currently runs on It I jus don't wanna go throwing money around at modules and sensors and everythin and before I get blasted about not searching I have searched even though I wasn't a member and I know of most things that wont allow spark I just want all the feedback you can provide because I also do not know if the overcharging could have hurt something more serious (computer) car does run though could it be I have all failing DIS modules? As far as how dis is mounted and thermal paste mcclusky had used spacers on It and claimed never had an issue there is a ground on lower right bolt straight to battery I even redid connector on it and cut and restriped into battery terminal

am I overworrying , thinking it? just a crank sensor?

what codes are there when it does not start? it will save you a bunch of money to get in the habit of pulling the codes rather than guessing and buying parts.

the 15.5V could have damaged other stuff like the pcm or crank sensor, etc. but you would be just guessing without knowing the codes.

not entirely sure yet is there a plug for a handheld scanner? I found big plug for self test but the grey plug was not with it and I couldn't find it unless im blind and I followed harness for test plug to where it meets the thick harness and there were no wires cut or anything I have to take it back to his house still to figure that part out he might have hidden it in the harness and just cant remember

Never realized how important punctuations were to me till I read this thread.

The testing harness is on the passenger side of the engine bay near the strut tower. Mine is between the strut tower and the firewall.

On my 90, the little gray plug has exactly the same length of wire as the larger, odd shaped plug. Both fit in a plastic end cover that says "EEC Test".
The little gray plug comes out of the corrugated protective plastic sheath that the large plug wires emerge from in the wiring harness.
Cut back that sheathing and see if there is a broken wire in there; and look for that "EEC Test" plastic cover, either on the firewall or loose in the area you are concerned with, in the hopes the wire / connector is still in it.
What year is you car / harness.

Here is some help on the paper clip method:

My car has no where near that length of wire on the connectors. It looks like the wires were extended so the person could see the code reader while he was sitting in the drivers seat. Unwrap all that electrical tape back to where the wires emerge from the corrugated conduit that jackets the wiring harness. Then be prepared to cut back the corrugated jacket to look for the mystery wire and connector. My car has no wires covered by electrical tape, all that has been added to extend those connectors.

So can I just hook a code reader into the bigger plug? And try to pull up stored codes?

Take a look at the link in post 8. That is a typical wiring set up in the first picture. And it looks like you need that small wire to get the codes, and probably the code reader needs it too.

I don't know what an msd dis 4 is, can you clarify?

First thing, put the DIS back like it was from the factory; there is absolutely nothing to be gained from changing the way it is mounted. Do that to rule out DIS overheating. If the problem persists, a no spark condition is usually either the CPS, DIS ground issue, or (less likely) the ignition circuit is intermittently not supplying Vbat power to the DIS module. The last is easily checked with a voltmeter on DIS pin 1 (left connector, upper pin). The ground issue is ruled out by the dedicated wire you have from battery negative terminal to either one of the bottom DIS mounting bolts. It seems likely that you have an intermittent CPS; perhaps the water pump is leaking coolant on it when the car is driven.

Another tool you can use to diagnose is one of those automotive voltage test lights with the pointy probe. It has to be the LED type, not incandescent. You can use it at the DIS connectors to probe the various signals like PIP from the CPS, coil signals, IDM, etc. Probing with the engine running, you'll see the LED flashing in time with the signals. The SHO engine book has the DIS pin out.
