Finally finished my mishi intercooler set-up a couple days ago and took some pics. I painted the crash bar black so its a little more inconspicuous. Couldn't fit the factory grill back on either. I did buy some mesh just to see but i couldn't utilize it either, so i returned it. All in all went well and no issues or boost leaks. Job well done. I plan to try upgrading that oil cooler cause it looks so beat up lol.

Looks nice. I did the same upgrade on my first build and found that if you flip the IC (logo facing in), I could fit the Police Interceptor grill (then I went nuts with the second IC).

no way, really? How? I thought i couldn't fit the grill cause of the sheer size of the intercooler. Forgive me cause i dont know the difference so ill just ask you, is the picture im gonna attach (my stock grill) one that will work if i do such a thing? I do have the ac condenser (where the yellow hoses at the top right corner of it) kinda pushing the IC foward. Im at work so i physically cant check atm

I don't know if a SHO grill will fit and I think I remember reading they are pretty different. Flipping the IC allows it to sit further back because the inlet/outlets are offset (not centered in the IC). I had to massage the core support (but it's plastic) and a little bit on the grill. I also had to use a different mounting system on the crash bar. It's not plug-n-play and you'll give up that cool Mishi logo but it can be done.

Hmmm i kinda see what your saying. Cause the problem lies in the top of the intercooler sticking out so if the top if pushed back, maybe lowered by altering the crash bar by maybe dropping it down an inch? I see what your saying. MAYBE i can fab a plate on both sides to lower the crash bar a couple inches and offset the top of the IC? Btw is this the grill you were talking about?

You can't lower the crash bar because the bumper skin mounts to it. The crash bar has to stay where it is and you move the IC further back, clearancing things as needed. I used 90 degree brackets to mount the IC to the crash bar. The IC mounting points will sit behind the rear edge of the crash bar (floating in air) so they need the brackets. That grill looks right but it's aftermarket so I don't know if it's exactly the same.

Ok gotcha. Whats funny is i made stainless 90 degree brackets just in case i needed them for whatever reason. Glad i did now. I understand what you mean now. I really could like to put the grill back on so im gonna change the set up so the grill with fit with how you describe it

The mishimoto does better than stock but still not to well in spring-fall, the treadstone tr8c is the best the inlets are larger along with the psi drop is not much compared to the larger types. It’s a balancing act

I honestly don't think there would be a measurable performance difference. That form factor is just too small. My IATs were still too high so I went to a TR1235. But the Mishi and TR8C will provide more fun than stock for sure.

I thought they were the same size, being 2.5" unless you mean internally, then i understandwhat your saying. I also got it new for 150$. The day i truly upgrade the intercooler, im REALLY upgrading it, refabbing my crash bar and all.

Thats the debate i was reading about as well. I figured with the price i got the mishi for (150$ new) it wont make much of a difference for me until i start truly upgrading it. Then ill resell the mishi or donate it and move on to a bigger set up.

Great bang for the buck!
Hey so i was looking at the intercooler and youre right (which i figured) so im assuming the inlet/outlet side doesnt matter if the bolt holes remain at the bottom but you flip the "M" around right? Also what kinda paint do they use on the intercooler? Maybe i can print out an "M" symbol and spray it on

The Mishi is non-directional so just flip. I'd make a pattern a lightly spray it IMHO.

Did that first smaller intercooler help with IAT’s? What are the dimensions. Brad told me to get an intercooler to take advantage of an e30 tune. And not trying to spend almost 1000$ for an Intercooler

I got some improvement but not enough to get me into the 11's. The small one is bigger (surface area) than OEM and is out front so it's step in the right direction. This platform doesn't have many choices so the dollar rules.
