Since the 93MTX I just bought has a cheapo pioneer head unit, I'll be looking to replace it.

Are there any head units that DO NOT COME with a CD player? IMO, CD players are a useless waste of valueable space that could otherwise be used to house a more powerful amp or a NAV or other more modern goodies.

I don't want to play videos, but a touch screen for controls and NAV would be cool. I'm already looking at crutchfield, but just wanted to see if anyone here has a suggestion.

dual and jensen are both crap...if you have no other options, get the clarion.

Well, if I up the game to the 1100 dollar range, I get to choose from Sony and Alpine...all with 18W RMS.

I think my cutoff is around $400 since it'll just end up getting stolen, anyway.

I might just go after a decent head unit with bluetooth and skip the navvy since my phone has decent GPS.

so...is 22W still the top of the "head unit RMS game?"

22 watts rms is pretty standard nowadays. it's not quite enough to make my Phoenix Gold components scream as loud as i'd like, but should give normal coaxs and stockers a nice workout. i'd suggest pioneer since they have decent sound quality and are durable as ****.

Ive always liked the Alpine units that don't have the CD player, I'll be upgrading to one once I fix the mechanical issues

Technically yes but, alpine has a small external add on amp KTP-445 $119 that puts out 45x4 rms.
