We were trying to change the thermostat and we got everything hooked up and we started putting coolant in and it started pouring out where the thermostat is. So we took it off and put the old o ring back on in place of the gasket maker. As we were putting the nuts back on we stripped the bottom bolt where the thermo stat is. The one where the metal pipe meats the engine. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?

As said, use vice grips to get hold of the old stud and remove it from the water outlet housing.

Replacement studs are available at AutoZone. IIRC, it's an M6 X 42 MM (maybe an M8).

If the stud has sheared so that you cannot remove the remaining piece, your only real choise is to locate a replacement water housing assembly from someone parting out an engine and a new set of gaskets. Replacement of the housing is a PITA because of limited space.

Heh! At least you didn't do the boneheaded stunt I did last winter!

After I sheared the stud off, I didn't think of the vice grips until AFTER I whacked the end of the stud off with a hacksaw and tried to drill the bolt for a EasyOut. Of course I screwed it up and ended up having to replace the whole outlet assembly. That's why I have a water outlet sitting under my desk, still. Every time I stub my toe on it, I remember to ask for help before jumping ...

My 15 minute job went to 6 days while waiting for the parts.....

Doh!
