SLV, I have a '99 'star. If something like an Intech swap would get significantly more mpg out of it I might be interested in helping figure out which wire goes where.

BTW, you now have all the data you need to calculate the piston height vs block height, between what I've posted and that found in the engine manual.

zak

The Continental has the AX4N transaxle, and the Windstar only uses this transmission in 2001-2003. You might be able to swap the entire engine/transmission from a Continental, but no guarantees there.

I need to get this SHO project done before I even think about a 4.6 swap on the newer Windstar. I will, however, tuck it into the back of my mind.

I don't see what can be so hard about the wiring if you assemble the entire unit then raise it into place.

Looks to me like the pistons don't quite reach deck at TDC... unless it is measured to the highest point of the piston (piston/deck clearance is measured to the edge, isn't it?).

Thanks for those pictures!!!

Glad to help!

I'm assuming I rotated the piston all the way up in those two pictures. It was a while ago though so I can't be sure at this point, but it would be silly for me to clean it out and not have it as high as possible.

that'd be a wiring nightmare...just ask the guy who tried to swap one of those into a cam failed SHO on TCCA....

all you need is a donor car and you swap harnesses.

Thanks... maybe I'll give SC another look.

You lost me on the above... I didn't "guess it". Can you clarify what you are talking about?

Also, are the "HD" Wiseco pistons? I'm planning on getting forged pistons. Would you bore it out? How much bore would you do? Thanks![/quote

the guess it part was followed by the punch line. a lincoln contintal swap. 4.6 V8.

If you are building a engine for N/A duty you can have pistons made to suit your needs and they are a tad lighter than a piston designed for boost or NO2. The weight difference would never be noticable on a ATX car anyway. pulling a few grams from each piston when you have a torque converter that weighs nearly 40lbs on the end of the crank.
