My 1990 MTX has been dying and then not starting for a few minutes. I thought it was the check valve in the fuel pump draining gas back into the tank but I replaced that yesterday and it still does it. Not all the time and sometimes when we stop for lunch it wont start just cranks and cranks then a few minutes later it will start right up fine. Twice now it has died on me while driving and I coast to the shoulder crank it a few times with nothing wait a few minutes and it starts right up?, any help/suggestions?
Thanks

Have you checked for codes? Sounds like the typical symptoms of a failing crankshaft position sensor. When was the last time the car had a front 60k?

(See? I'm not always a smartass, I can be helpful too! :angelnot:)

Front 60K

Thanks Guys, I have not pulled codes yet. I was planning on doing the front 60K this fall. I have all the parts just wanted to drive it this summer. I spoke to the original owner who owned it from 1990 to 2008 and he said he had never had the timing belt, water pump, fuel pump replaced. I hate a car that is not reliable.
Looks like the 93 will get driven more now!

could very well be a CCRM that is going bad. Next time it happens, give it a sharp smack with the flat of your hand, then try to start it right away. That was the solution to my 95 & it acted the same way. Usually a CPS that goes out before finally failing completely takes at least 30-40 minutes before it will re-start. & they usually just go completely & must be replaced before it wil re-start.
