Would anyone have a Quaife outside of a transmission that could measure the diameter of the hole that goes through the center?

Thanks very much - zak

That thread has some outer dimensions, I need the innermost one.

I just need the centerbore diameter to make a jig to keep my reamer centered, per this thread:

Also need it so I have the correct threaded rod/nuts/washers on hand to make a seal installation machine.

oh okay, now I remember, can you get a picture or something of what dimension you need because it sounds like you need the trans casing hole size where the bearing sits.

okay, if your making a seal installer then wouldn't a 1" threaded rod be enough? even if that doesn't work go down to 7/8" but neither of them would be truly centered.

You got a picture of that reamer?

You got a picture of that reamer?

Here is what I bought:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16095195752...l?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=160951957525&_rdc=1

The hole is maybe around 3/4 just going from memory, but could use an exact measurement for piloting the reamer.

I suspect these seal bores do generally become gouged after repeated seal r&r and hamper installation of replacements. As soon as you gouge into aluminum you will get "high spots" at the edge of the gouge - the material has to go somewhere.

SO can anyone measure a Quaife?

ah okay, i know someone has posted a quaife that shows the through hole but no one has ever measured it, it would be difficult since it changes inside, i'm certain the only diameter you can use will be the root diameter of the shaft, that should be the smallest diameter within the diff. This whole project seems a bit much just for a gouge. should be an easier way. Got a picture of the damage?

Have you asked Josh @ SHONut?

Just going from memory, but it seems like that hole is rather small. Replacing the case half wouldn't be a better fix? Obviously more labor would be involved.

Good luck!

He needs the dimension of the hole that goes dead center through the quaife.

Which is unfortunately not shown on this diagram http://quaife.co.uk/sites/default/files/drawings/QDF25Z.pdf
Oh, through the dead center of the spring washers.

And to think I had my Quaife apart last night to try and resurrect it from it's salt-watery grave.

I can't get to it tonight, but maybe this weekend I'll take it apart again and measure the bore of those washers.

Stay tuned.

(Unless you don't need this info any longer, then let me know so I don't go taking this thing apart again!)

Thanks RacerX I just saw this. So does it get smaller inside than the diameter3er D4 of 1.154 nominal inches? I thought it might (for creating a screw machine to pull the seals inward evenly), but I can design my pilot to run off the D4 diameter, so many many thanks for a way not to have to pull the whole trans and split the case.

Quaife's warrenty doesn't cover flooding/acts of God?

Hey Zak, the warranty doesn't cover salt water damage. However, the Quaife internals are pretty stout, so no worries with functionality after cleanup.

The ID of the washers are much smaller than D4. I'll measure when I get home later, I forgot to check way back when.
