today i was driving on the freeway in the rain/snow when the car in front of me hit the brakes and i had no chose so i did the same. now i know not to slam on my brakes and I DIDN'T.

but for some reason the peddle got real stiffed locked up the brakes(heard the ABS Working) and throw it out of gear. i couldn't even put it in gear the only way it would go into gear is if the car was off and then when i go to start it it would throw it out of gear again.

reminder i am on the freeway with visibility only 100 feet or so. i was a sitting duck.

i got the car home now. and still trying to figure what the **** is wrong with it

please help SHOCarGo

Hows the font end alignment feel? Is the steering wheel crooked at all?

It sounds to me like the entire subframe shifted, and now the rod shifter is out of alignment.

Thats probably the "best" scenario I can give you at this point.

The other ones are considerably worse.

yes i 99.8% sure not its not and not 100% because i didn't get the car new i don't know if it bent to begin with or not( i have seen some crazy rod shifters) and even if it was bent before it sift OK kinda hard to get into gear

when you drove car before all this problem, did you feel like it was hard to put it into gear or something like that?

well it hard to explane it was kinda hard to put into gear like it had no fluid. so i changed the fluid with different type then it was better. still kinda hard but i was OK with it. then after this happened(the whole freeway thing) it's like theirs dirt in there( not like the noise but the fill, when i shift, kinda like rubbing sand in between your hands. if anyone understands) ..........

went out there today, and tried to drive it now i can get into to gear but hard. seams to be better then the other day. its like it is fixing it self ..... still don't know what the **** going on

take your tranny out and check the PP! i bet you broke some fingers on it. as for it poppin out of gear is it cable? if so check inside your shifter councel and see how the conectors are. if its rod check bushings and everywhere they connect

I'm gonna guess it's a clutch/tranny problem.
Remove your starter and check the pressure plate straps.

While you are under there removing the starter, disconnect the rod shifter and stick a small screwdriver in the hole on the shift shaft. Make sure it goes into all the gears by moving the shift shaft.

Worst case scenario is that when you hit the brakes, the two front tires were rotating at different speeds (yes they will slide a bit when anti-locs kick in) causing the diff to work really hard, dislodging a diff pin. It could be settling back into it's spot, that's why it's seemingly fixing itself.

My logic might be suspect, though. I'm not sure if a loose dif pin will cause it to be hard to get into gear.

You might want to consider removing the axles and having a look to see if the diff pins are where they should be.
