That is why I was wondering about missing the lower plastic pin. Without it the bearing can move around some. If I can not replace them. What would keep the bearing from turning on the Quill?

If it was the fork, I would think that ring would be all the way around the PP, not just where the broken finger are.

Either pp was slightly defective (tolerances off enough to cause tob contact)

Or...

TOB rocking too much...exposing the tolerances by allowing theedge of the case to contact the fingers.

One of the two went bad. I guess I'll put it back together with the new parts and see how long this one lasts. Just not sure if I should replace the shaft bushings while the trans is out. Or just install clutch and run it.

Oh... I get it...

That's 2 stages of failure. The TOB locked up, wearing through the tips and then later, the TOB case begins cut the fingers off even further down.

So is there any source for the plastic pins?

Yes, i bought one from a local ford dealer about a year ago. I believe it cost around $2.00 or $3.00. They had several in stock at the time. :sun:

I think i might even have the ford part number around still. ill go look

Yea! I see the '2 stages' of failure.
when you re install the new PP-make sure you use the 3 pins in the flywheel & they are not too long to hold the PP off the FW! Do a check fit with the PP to the FW with no disk in there!
-oh & our FW had NO PINS also!!

I would. You have the trans out, good time to do replace those bushings. Takes a fair amount of work and time to take the trans out again just to replace those shaft bushings. It made a heck of difference in combination with the ceramic TOB. You can get the teflon impregnated alumina ceramic coated aluminum TOB release shaft bushings at SHO NUT. They cost around $30. :thumb: good luck!

Just not sure if I should replace the shaft bushings while the trans is out. Or just install clutch and run it.

I found a site that has the fork pins for 83 cents. But shipping would be $12.34..LOL

I didnt have the 1st dash but yes that looks correct

Ok thanks. One last question. Is there just the one pin at the top fork? I looked at the bottom and can not see what looks like a hole or anything that looks like it's been broken off.

A small tie-rap or any plastic push pin will work just fine! its only purpose is to hold the TObearing to the fork while installing the trans. after that it serves no purpose! & you are also supposed to jam a spacer between the clutch lever & tranny case to hold it in place just for install. I found a cotter pin on the one we did last night!

Time to install a ceramic TOB from shonutperformance. IIRC, the one I purchased included the little plastic pin.

I was waiting for someont to post this.
It must be an old wise tale that the little plastic pin is responsible for retaining the TOB to the fork.
The little plastic pin is for installation only!
