just broke 100k on the SHO so of course something has to go wrong so here are the symptoms.

93 mtx

was cruising at 60-65 went to shift into 5th wouldnt let me. try to shift into all ofther gears wouldnt let me. i pull over and once i stop it lets me get into 1st gear only. if i shut the car off it lets me shift into all gears without a problem but while running i can only get into 1st. also when im in first and the clutch is pressed down the car still wants to move forward as if you were taking off from a stop light.

throw out bearing has been rattling for sometime but other then that the car shifted great without any problems.

so my question is it time for a new clutch or is it something else i.e linkage?

thanks for any info.

andy

forgot to mention its the original clutch if that means anything.

Yea sounds like a clutch problem... Just be lucky you were able to drive it around when it went out. I was in the middle of rush hour traffic and i only had 1st gear and neutral would not work. So i had to turn the ignition off to stop and turn the key to start to take off until i got home.... Then i had to attempt to reverse park when i got to my apt complex. :(

Sounds like clutch time due to TOB failure to me. Is pedal stiff too? You have found the workaround to try if you get stuck and it won't let you shift. Turn motor off. You will then be able to get it into gear, second or third. Hold clutch pedal down, start car, slip clutch to get going and head directly home without shifting, trying to avoid any stops. Good luck!

You should be able to match shifts if the TOB ate itself up..... been there done that, make sure you have a good battery and starter before you go though! lol you'll have to start it in first gear and match shifts from there..

yeah i got it home in first gear only i tried turning the car off shifting into a higher gear and take off but i had nothing it would sit there when i released the clutch. the pedal is really soft.

well i just wanted confirmation that the clutch is toast i figured it was. ive got a new tob and 9 puck in the garage i just need to get the rest of the parts.

i still havent decided how far i want to go with this transmission i.e shot peening and so on. its not a daily driver so there is no rush to get it fixed ill take my time and do it right.

thanks again everone who posted. once i get the tranny out of the car ill post some pics of what it looks inside.
