I'll try firing it up without the acc belts on there. The only problem will that I'll be in the car. No one to start the car while I'm outside it but it's certainly worth a shot. I just might not be able to hear it from inside the car.

This will be my 3rd time tearing the front of the motor down....By the time I get this all sorted out, I should be able do a full front 60K in record time.

Thanks again to everyone for the help. This forum has helped me keep my sanity with this car :nut:

If you want, when you are done retensioning the belt, fire it up with no accy belts for a few seconds and make sure there's

A. no "flapping"
B. no "whining"

oh god. (not to hijack this thread but...) what does whining mean? im assuming bad news. my car whines like a..... baby. an annoying one. i too shall get a vid of the noise, somebody told me its just a bearing on an accessory pully but its gotten louder since.

You can listen to pulleys with a stethoscope or a long screw driver, hold it against the bolt head or the bracket it attaches to to hear if one is a lot louder than the other. Take off your accessory belts and run the car just for a minute and see if the sound went away. Spin the pulleys by hand and see if one is hard to turn, or makes a lot of whirring noises when spun. You'll be able to narrow it down.

Removed the top timing belt cover and this is what I saw....I think I may have put the timing belt on backwards....

I still need to deal with the tensioner issue as well... it's still whining like a stuck pig.

Nope, you forgot the guide washer on the crank pulley.

Been there, done that.

Did it walk off the cam pulleys enough to eat into the timing covers?

I sure didn't forget the Washer.....I actually posted on here previously because I couldn't remember which way it went on. :bonk: It hasn't walked off enough to eat into the covers.

I know it's not that I forgot the washer.

You either forgot the washer, or put it on wrong.

There's no way that belt is that far off of the pulleys, and the washer is ok.

Here is the link to my previous post regarding the washer

I'm thinking that not only the timing belt is on wrong but I have the tensioner on way too tight.
