so last week, my temperature on the gauge read at the M or A while sitting in traffic. It wouldn't ver go above the M. The only things i have changed since last week are........an oil change from 5w-30 to 10w-30, i plugged the wire back in from the oil pressure sender because that was off, and i gave my baby a wash. Now the car seems to want to idle at the N until the fan kicks on which brings it down to the O. Then goes right back up to the N. I don't get it. I re-did basically the whole cooling system last year. I fixed my radiator leak, put a motorcraft 180 degree thermostat in, replaced the temp sending unit, and put new fluid in the system. Is it ok to run in the N range? I'm wondering if plugging back in that oil pressure sending wire did anything. i'm not sure. I did a search on this topic and no one really answered my question. Thanks.

Greg,

I'd have to say that something is amiss there. I'm assuming that you checked your coolant level already and it's ok. If not, then that would be the first thing I'd check. Something also to check, even though it was probably replaced last year is your t-stat. They do go bad sometimes prematurely.

You may also want to take an external temp reading on your car after a good run to see just how hot it really is. The gauge could be lying to you... Another item to check on is your water pump...but this would be an item to check last IMO.

As for running around the N area, I'd say that it isn't a good thing. Even though it's not in the red at that point, it's too close for my comfort. If anything will **** your car, it's heat. Get it checked out.

Wish I could help out more but my knowledge in this department is rather limited. Just the basics... frown

i already checked the fluids and filled them all back up even though they were basically full. I then unhooked the oil pressure sender wire "just" to try it out and it still got up in the N. I guess i'm not going to drive on it for now. I will have to go buy a new thermostat real soon. Piece of junk.
