While pulling the fuel tank, I busted nearly every quick-connect fitting - as well as the fuel-vapor check-valve - which is the issue/question here.

I found a replacement fuel-vapor check-valve relatively quickly, the replacement/alternative-part grommet took significantly longer to source. The new check valve is maybe an issue because it has only one ******, and the old valve had two.

Of the two lines which connected to the old fuel-vapor valve, one ran into the engine bay, but the second ran for a foot or two, then terminated to atmosphere - which is pretty weird.

Do I need to plumb a "y" into the vapor line right before the check valve, or can I disregard the original setup since the gas tank already has a breather line by the filler neck?

Mystery solved, found the check-valve in the line to atmosphere. I'm guessing it's a redundancy/emergency vent, in case the in-tank valve goes ****-up.

The original question stands tho - is this redundancy necessary? if the tank-mounted valve poops out, then I've got other problems to worry about...
