...cuz it keeps shuddering on the 2-3 and 3.5-4 shift (I say 3.5 because the TC does it's thing to make the car feel like a 5 speed auto from time to time). I've heard of this before, but I'll be damned if I can remember where. It's been doing it since I bought it the first time a few years back. Anyone know why?

Motorcraft fluid from FPS when I got my 100k. It was changed Valentine's day of 06, but it's only got about 35k on the fluid.

If im thinking correctly, my friend's V8 SHO had a similar problem. 1-2 and 2-3 would be smooth as silk but the 3-OD would hesitate and shudder a bit on any range of throttle. I remember someone on here told me about a recall on the transmission about some metal clip inside of the transmission (shift solenoid?) and falls off causing an abnormal shift in the 3-OD transition. Perhaps this is the same problem you are having? Anyone want to find that recalls number and post it up?

Even though the factory recommended interval is 30K miles for the ATF, 20K is a much better time based on the way most of us drive and the condition of the fluid at that point. I personally do mine every 10K with Amsoil, but only change the filter every other change.

You could just put in a bottle of Lucas now and see if that helps clear up the shudder. It should.

Using a dino fluid it should have been completely flushed at 15k. Don't bother with the Lucas in 35k and worn out fluid. Get some new fluid in there.

My SLO did something similar to this. I think the tranny shop said it was a bad valve body. It's been four or five years so my memory isn't very good but I think that's what it was.

If it is a +'98 tranny it needs the Mercon V rated fluid. Actually Ford now says Mercon V for any tranny as the older Mercon is not supported any more. The "98s had Kevlar clutch material. I always recommend Amsoil ATF myself.
