MY SHO wont start... HELP!!!

as I was backing out of my drveway my car stalled, then smoke started to come out of my coolant resivoir, now my car just cranks, doesnt fire, I just changed the fuel pump today, because there is no prime comming from the pump when turn the key. The RPMs do go up a little when its cranking, like to 200... but fel pump does not prime when key is first turned... whats going on?

Relay pack, mounted on the radiator support under the black plastic cover with the belt routing & AC info on it.

That's my bet. The smoking is probably from that unit. It controls the Fuel Pump, among other things.

Did it stall before or after you replaced the fuel pump? Did you put everything back together? Check all connections?

Nope,it was $150, and not the problem, it does give those symptems of that being bad, but it wasnt the relay pack. Thanks,any other ideas?
I checked the fuel shut off switch, wasnt that... I am stumped... The car died before I changed the fuel pump.

You said you saw smoke from an area that could very possibly be from shorted wiring. The coolant expansion bottle doesn't make smoke. Better check it out.

The only thing that I would think could make smoke in the coolant thing is from that wire with the little prongs. it was a VERY strong smoke smell when I took the cap off, and white smoke came out of the container.. something doesnt add up, I think I need to take it to the ***** at Ford.

sortov sounds like you've got an electrical problem (shorted wireing) the only way to fix that is to start traceing wires and checking for breaks/bad grounds/shorts.

I had this exact same problem. You have blown the fuel pump fuse. Guess what shares the circuit of the fuel pump? The coolant level sensor. Disconnect the coolant level sensor and replace the underhood fuel pump fuse. I bet your car will start.

You may have blown the fuel pump fuse, but replacing it probably won't solve the problem. Fuses are in the circuit for a reason; to protect against a short circuit. If the fuse blew then there is an electrical short. Since the fuel pump was just replaced, you had better check that installation.

I didn't say bypass the fuse. What I meant was the sensor itself was the short and it was causing the fuel pump fuse to blow. The reason the smoke is comming from the reservoir(at least in my case) was because the shorted sensor was boiling the coolant.

My 94 SHO had a similar problem and it had nothing to do with the fuel pump relays or anything like that. Come to find out, it was one stupid wire that got cut and cut off the power to the pcm(powertrain control module) and a relay module(controls fuel pump, A/C compressor and fans). I too replaced that module (actually I have a spare LOL) The wire is located under the air filter housing. It's a thick yellow wire that comes from the power distribution box up by the fire wall on the drivers side. When they put all those wires in the harness one wire was constantly rubbing up against the yellow wire and eventually broke right thru it. I had to open the whole harness to find the problem and it took me 2 weeks to find it. I have a wiring diagram for the SHO's can e-mail it to you if you like.

Well,I had it fixed today, it was a problem with the wiring going to the fuel pump, and I shorted out my coolant sensor. Thanks for the help guys.

SHOSPD, how much did the dealer charge you for their service? I was thinking about taking mine there too with about the same problem as you have (i think you posted something under my thread too)
