We came up with the ultimate CAI. The intake pipe is abour 6" long and goes straight through the inner fender (outside the engine compartment where it is cool). No friction losses from the bends in the pipe. I found a super large (and flat) Airaid filter that fits perfect and has about 3 times the area of the SHOshop filter. WHen you are at the track you can remove the corner marker and it is a straight shot into the filter. If I ever get spare time, I plan to build a small ram air scoop. When to corner marker is installed, there is still lots of room to get free fresh air from the front of the car.

I thought about going the route you did with the plastic pipe, but the friction loss from the bends, and the larger fender hole convinced me otherwise. I can punch the hole through the inner fender without cutting into or weakening the box tube support.

If you are interested in more info, let me know.

I will get some pictures and a part number for the air filter.

I spent two or three months staring at and cutting up a scrap car to find our "simple" solution. Basically, you come as close to straight as you can from the intake of the supercharger. Since there is the reinforced box tube in the fender (and I did not want to cut into it), I put the hole right below the box tube (about 1/2" lower than the intake of the supercharger. I used about a 5-6" long piece of 4" exhaust pipe for the intake. I took me about three tries to get the correct length. You want about 1/2" gap between the pipe and the supercharger, and you want it to stick through the inner fender about 3/4" so the air filter can mount. The pipe should be cut with a slight bevel on it to account for the angle, and then I did a little hammering to make the beveled cut round (I used a trailer hitch ball as an anvil).

The trickiest part is installation. Slide the 4" silicone coupler all the way on the pipe. Feed the pipe through the hole in the inner fender and directly into the air filter (since the air filter is also a tight fit). Then once the pipe is in the air filter, you can slide the silicone coupler back up the pipe and onto the supercharger intake.

Like I said, I will get some pictures, but the design is as simple as it gets, just the execution of the design is tricky.

You should see the cold air kit I made out of PVC a while back...Now that was nice!

I have an industrial grade heat gun that plubers use to heat and bend PVC. Boy did that look good, no extra PVC couplers needed, just tubing and some silicone adapters.

For going though the fender opening without doing any cutting there are 4" rubber plumbing 90s. These will deform to fit the opening but not reduce total area. And a 4" opening filter connects right to the end of them.
