My 1995 ATX sucks shifting into second gear. I just had the front motor mount replaced and that helped A LOT! But I drove with it broken for like 4 months eek! . Could I have hurt my transmission or could my mechanic have put it in wrong or loose? My car has 107,000 miles and seems strong other than that.

I was thinking of getting a shift kit once I get a job again. Will this solve my problem?

Should I get an internal shift kit or will a LPM reprogrammed one do?

Do I have another bad motor mount? My subframe bent(caved in) a tiny bit when I jacked the car up.

Any suggestions would help a lot, otherwise I'll just get a shift kit a few weeks from now and hope for the best.

And I just had a trans filter and fluid changed :)

Well, hard 1-2 shifts in the ATX seem to be pretty common from what I've read on here, my '94 does it occasionally. I have a couple concerns about it though, at 107k miles, it probably is getting ready to die, as I'm sure you've read plenty, most of em die about 100k miles (mine has 140k miles, so not all of em) so it might be getting ready to go out. Unless it's doing other stuff like stuttering on the 1-2 shift frequently and whatnot, I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm not sure if the LPM or a shift kit will correct it or not.

if it only does it once in a while,? like after it sits for a while try starting off in second that will eliminate it hitting hard .

It's an automatic don't treat it like a manual or you will FU((^#$( it up. The SHO ATX has a history of shifting hard there is nothing wrong with that other than it just is annouing. There are guys who have had luck with trying diffrent things like after market shift kits, different fluids, computers, changing the shift points, and the list goes on. Face it it is a design flaw. I just had mine rebuilt at 136K+++ and it has all the new stuff and it still shifts hard.

There is a lot wrong with shifting hard. You are going to eat up those gears. If you slip into ear a lot you will eat up the clutch material. You want a firm smooth shift. The AX4N's shift the best, but they still suck. Ford will never make a good tranny. frown

When I had my front mount broken I didnt know what the problem was for a long while. I took my car back to the guy who diagnosed my car right the first time and he said because I drove it so long with a broken front mount, the extra movement wrecked the rear mount probably. So I will get a new rear mount before I ruin my new one the same way. Now, where to get the money since I lost my job!? frown

My tranny shifts really hard, and its been rebuild. I was just as bad when i first got the car, I had a shift kit installed and it still sucks. I give up, if the tranny breaks again i'm just gonna blow the Fu@#er up...

Well my front right subframe insulator/bushing was bad so I replaced it. It helped but it still hits some. I think I'll take it to a shop and have them check all the bushing and the rear motor mount and the trans mount too. I really dont think its inside the transmission. When I first got the car at 86,000 miles one year ago it was great, then my front motor mount broke and have had problems since. So I think its only the motor/subframe/trans support. Once I get a job I'll replace all the subframe bushings. Now my car has 107,000 miles :)

When was the last time your trans fluid was changed, before you just recently did it??? If it hadn't been done faithfully I can almost bet that is the culprit of your problem.
