My airbag light flickers on and off!!!

Ok, so here's the situation:

I am deployed right now, so my wife is driving the car. I have a 93' MTX with 110K miles. It had it's share of problems, mainly due to the fact the previous owner never did a 60K. But, since I had it done, supposedly it's been running fine. My wife told me yesterday that the airbag light has been coming on. Not all the time, but randomly illuminating. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Is this a sign of future, more serious problems? I really don't want her to be driving down the road and the airbags deploy suddenly. Please, any help would be appreciated.

The airbag light is giving you a generic error code. I think it is a two digit code, so watch for a series of flashes, a pause, and then another series of flashes. This will give you a code which you can then lookup and determine the problem (hopefully). You can look here:

Good question. When my alternator was failing I'd get the airbag light coming on. Same with the battery. As things got worse my ABS light came on too.

Mine stayed on for a while and then mysteriously went away. The light is definately still good, but I was told that the inertia mechinism/switch can go bad with time. Because I don't have an airbag system scanner, I just ignored it until it went off. And then I forgot about it until I saw this post.
