The clutch was replaced at the local clutch doctors about 2,000 miles ago.

It has been chattering ever since. With the transmission in neutral and the clutch out, there is a loud chatter. It stops once the clutch is pushed all the way down.

I went back to the shop and let the owner listen to the chatter. He said that is was my input shaft bearings making the noise and it COULD NOT BE THE TOB. He said, "Whoever told you it was TOB chatter is an idiot."

I did the rolling test and with the car rolling, and with the car off, I put the transmission in neutral and with the clutch out i didn't hear a thing.

There is a 2 year, 20,000 mile warranty on parts and labor.

How can I get them to fix the chatter. I didn't insist that they look at it but the chatter is not going away!

Should I take the car to some other shops and get written statements saying that it could be the TOB?

Any suggestions would be great!

I want this thing fixed! Its their responibility!

I definitely think this is the TOB. Either the TOB is not properly aligned or the clutch was not broken in properly. Read SDpatt's reply to the other thread you posting this in. Try what he says and see if the noise goes away after a little while. My 92 does the exact same thing and I think the previous owner either beat on it right away or aamco did a sucky ass job (most likely).

SDpatt, do you think the chattering should go away before 2,000 miles? How long would it take for the TOB to align itself on the fingers?

What is the proper procedure for breaking in the clutch?

I usually shift at about 4 to 4.5k and I never take off hard.

Since I got the new clutch, I have only taken it to redline maybe 15 times. 5 of those times have been in the last 2 months.

Is this beating on it too hard. I dont think so but I have never had a stick before.

Anybody have any input on this?

Try adjusting the clutch, if you havn't already. Just pull up on the back side of the pedal with your foot. Then push in on the pedal. If it clicks, then it needed adjusted. Usually it needs done after a clutch job. Once in a while the adjusting mechanism is broken and you have to adjust it by hand. If it was the input shaft bearing, I wouldn't think it would stop when you engaged the clutch.

I tried the adjustment by pulling the handle up but it DID NOT click.

Its possible that the adjuster is broken.

How do I adjust it manually?
