Would you ask the sho forum when you have time. I know you are busy...

When we replaced clutch, I took the transmission to a car wash and cleaned thoroughly. In doing so I rotated or rolled the transmission over, probably several times before re-installing in the car. Is it possible that this "abnormal" movement can cause something to become dis-lodged internally and cause the shifting symptoms we are experiencing now? (hard shifting between gears, clutch engages/disengages perfectly)

Also, If we decide to flush this thing next, how do we get the old out affectively? I would like to know where to add the drain plug, what size hole and what plug is recommended.

Thanks,
Jeff

Drain plug mod is documented at www.shotimes.com It includes placement diagrams and complete instructions.

Perhaps the rolling over of the tranny caused something that was in the pan to get into the moving parts of the tranny. Dunno....

half-way there, I think.
Did you get water in the transmission when you washed it?? Also (I know it's a dumb question) you did re-fill the tranny, right?? There is no way to dis-lodged anything inside tranny by rolling it around.

I'm in the same boat as you are...I just had my clutch done and now the tranny is hard to shift into gears 1 through 4. I really have to push/pull ******* the shift lever to get it to go that last little bit. If it doesn't the tranny will jump out of gear when the clutch is released. After looking at the shift rods under the car I don't think that there is any external adjustment that can be done.

Type F? Or did you mean ATF.

You should be using a Dexron-compatible fluid. If you truly filled it with type F then I would suggest trying the correct fluid, as that may cause problems.

Well, the ford manual I have said type F...same as what goes in auto tranny's. That is also what the Ford dealer told me so??

As far as shifting problem, no its not all the time. Sometimes I can make a few shifts really smooth, but most of the time it goes half way in gear and spits it back out.

The last time Ford said put Type F into their trannies was with the old C3, C4, C6 transmissions. The owner's manual says Dexron Mercon III. There's actually an additive in Type F so those old beefy autos would shift harder. NOT something you want with a MTX. Go down to the GM dealer, and pick up 3 quarts of GM Syncromesh fluid.

I did the drainplug mod a while ago on my mtx. It's scarey at first laying underneath the tranny with a drill going through it. If you're not careful, pierce the casing, and the drill bit goes into the tranny, you are in the slammer. It's very convenient to have.
