I just replaced a new clutch on my 91 SHO a couple weeks ago which is also has the inconvenient cable shifter ...now I had a few mis shifts here and there since then but not everytime I drive the car ...now it's not going into reverse when I put it in gear ...It kinda moves forward but won't go backwards at all...now the other issue is that I'm having now is that when I'm shifting through 1st to 3rd my RPMs drop normal in between shifts but they rev up quick to 3,000RPMs and when I go into 4th the RPMs kinda go over 4,000 and the motor seems to rev up high while im driving at 40-50mph and that's in 4th gear and as for shifting into 5th it's impossible to do because it automatically revs up to the rev limiter like as if im overshifting so it just seems that I can get no gear timing when shifting at certain RPMs and that's ar cruising can anyone give me an idea of what it could be?

Ain't the shifter, something ain't right with that clutch. Sounds like it's not fully disengaging or engaging properly.

IMO, nothing wrong with the cable shifter. I've had both, and my '89s will stay with the cable.

well I jacked the car up and I looked underneath where that ball joint for the cable shifter is and it was still in place but I notice that there is somekinda fluid that is leaking all over where the shifter connects to underneath the car

Sounds like your shifter input seal is shot. That would not make do what your car is doing. It sound to me like your accelerator cable is binding up.

I prefer the cable shifters too; 15 lbs lighter weight, no vibrations transferred, straight through exhaust pipe and not bent, and more.. The one you have just needs the SHOsource repair kit for $19 and it will work better than new.
