so heres the deal.I just bought a new sho and When i shift into 2nd it grinds bad but once in 2nd it runs good. I figure its the synchro but i check the tranny fluid anyway and its low as ****. So i add about a quart and thats as much as she takes. Take it for a drive and it runs great for about a minn then grinding starts up again. Now i thought when the synchro is shot its not gonna matter if you add more fluid or not.Any ideas??

I think you're right about the synchronizer blocking ring on second gear. If there is no grinding in any of the other gears then the #2 blocking ring is shot. If all gears grind and it is difficult to get into first at a stop, then the throwout bearing and pressure plate are the likely cause.
the more i think about it the more i dont understand why if in fact the synchro is shot that adding fluid would help. Is it possiable that the tranny was bone dry and once the car started moving the fluid all setteled causing the grindage again. can anyone shed some light on this

havier, when the car is in motion, the tranny splashes fluid over the internals. I'm really not sure why it would be easy for a period of time, then get grind again. You could have some issues with the blocking ring or the synchro, but what about the clutch? Is it possible that the clutch is in the beginning stages of issues? You might also consider checking the shifter and linkage to make sure there are no obstructions. I hope it's not the synchro though.

Have you tried manually resetting the clutch cable? Could be you've got too much freeplay and the clutch isn't totally disengaging.
You could try matching revs or double-clutching (takes a little effort to learn, but is really simple once you get the hang of it) into 2nd to stretch out the useful life of the syncro. My 2-3 syncro is going, and I find I need to double-clutch into third from 4th fairly often.

thanks for all the input guys. Ive decided im gonna replace the clutch and tranny anyways. I got ahold of a cheap tranny in good condition while i dont think the problem is the clutch it should be replaced anyways. The feedback is appreciated!! thumb
