A number of people mentioned that there was an article in the Dec 2002 Motor Trend on the SHO, but after looking around at the three outlets near here that carry magazines in any quanitity, none of them stock Motor Trend. Could someone that has a scanner email me a copy, or snail mail a photocopy?

He's right. The article is about '96-'99 model years of the Taurus. Although, the pictures showed the SHO and the V8 engine. But, that's about it.

I would pick up the new motor trend. It has a nice picture of a red gen III with chrome rims and has the picture of the motor. If anyone is selling their's it also says that SHO's are worth top dollar ranging from 8500-18,000. So its a good article to sho someone that these cars are worth the money and they are rare...as the artice says. Their resale value came from kbb, however, and they are always high.

Well, Cancel that...now that the autoweek came out telling about the camshaft problems the resale just dropped from 2-4 thousand dollars. So who wants to sell me their 99 for 4 grand? boink

I'm assuming this is satire, because the market doesn't react THAT quickly to a problem that, though it has been in existence for a while, hasn't been made too public until now. If you weren't joking, proof of this drop in market value would certainly be appreciated.

As another side note, if the market really reacted that quickly, then as of my writing this, you would no longer be able to purchase an extended warranty from any company on this car, and the insurance and loan companies would have a heyday with the drop in market value. So far, my friends that are insurance brokers haven't reported any sort of massive loss on the value of my car.

Can't we instead look at this as a possible step forward in the ongoing struggle with FoMoCo to get this problem corrected?

Sorry John, I forgot to put a smiley face after my statement. I was just joking. Our cars are worth alot more than 2-4 grand, but if someone wants to sell me theirs for that price i'll be there tomorrow :) The resale hasn't fallen that fast yet but the more the word gets out about the motor the faster than normal the resale will fall.

It may fall, but I doubt it would take a plundge that great. It's not like the rest of the car (aka trans) is 100% reliable either, so it shouldn't be that great of a drastic drop. :)
