Does anyone have a better understanding to how the clutch function inside the power antenna works. I dont see any limitswitchs to stop it electrically, but there is a spring loaded clutch. This makes me beleive that there is eather a timing circuit or a torque limit sensor. I ask this because the problem I have been having is the last segment (smallest) of my antenna will not extend out do a bend or jamb. Therefore when the antenna extends or retracts it ends up grinding for about a 10 seconds after the antenna stop. So if there is a torque limit, i feel mine my not be working.

Im just wondering If I want to replace the antenna shaft or the whole motor for this.

Whether it be a timer or a torque limiter sensor, I'd have to think that you'd find it in the power antenna module, not the motor.

Behind the RH side of dash, near the top of cowl panel. I'm not sure, but I think you can get at it by dropping down the glove box door.

Replace the mast?

This is the same sound and result that you get when a portion of the plastic from the mast is broken off. Before you buy anything, take the antenna system apart to see if a broken section is the problem. Search threads for info on how to do it. I had the same problem for years and recently replaced the mast with one from EBAY for $18.95 including shipping

You can go to autozone and get a mast for a 91-96 corvette and it will fit like factory. Thats what i did with bandit :thumb:

It is not broken I had already taken it apart. The top portion of the mast is jambed. Just need to know how it works, Timer, Torque Sensor (Current), or mechanical slip clutch.

It's a timer. Still sounds like a $9 replacement mast will solve the problem without reinventing the wheel.

Okay even thought the antenna gear strip was not broken or in any way apper to be striped, I replaced my mast and it fixed the problem. I was only curious to if anyone new how it operated, I had planed on replacing the mast anyway.

Thanks for the help
