Had my trans rebuilt about 22,000 miles ago, with a TransGo shift kit, Been working fine ever since. (As well as one of these P.O.S. transmissions can work) Last week it started doing something really annoying, the 1-2 shift at light throttle is extremely severe. Really slams into second gear. The lighter throttle, the more severe it shifts. At WOT, or if you take it up to around 5000 RPM, it shifts fine. I removed the LPM, didn't help. Have not seen the check engine light come on, and everything else works fine. Shifts 2-3 great, overdrive works fine. Fluid looks red and not burnt. I can idle away from a stop sign with just enough throttle to keep the car moving, when it shifts to second, it practically tears your head off.
Any ideas? Anyone have a '95 MTX car in the Pacific Northwest for sale?

I'm presuming since you checked the fluid color that you checked the level as well, so I'll skip that step.

Your problem could have many causes... a fluid pressure problem, sticky servo(s), failing speedo gear, bad accumulator, etc.

Did you have the tranny rebuilt locally? If so, even if it's not still under warranty, it wouldn't hurt to bring it back for diagnosis (most places will give you a free once-over). They might even give you a break on any repairs since they did the rebuild.

If you're comfortable doing a little probing yourself, try dropping the tranny pan and see how much (if any) material is collected around the magnet. If it's clean, then it's probably electromechanical. If you find more than a few dust-like shavings (or anything big), time to have a pro look at it.

Hope this helps.

The Ford tech who rebuilt the trans checked it out, he thinks it's a broken accumulator spring since the rest of the trans works so well, but, of course, we will not be sure until the trans is removed and disassembled. That sucking sound I hear is, once again, my SHO draining my checking account. Does anyone know if other year ATX transmissions work in '94's? I have a line on a fairly low mile 1993 ATX trans in a wrecking yard. My son has a '95 Nissan Maxima. Car has a ton of power, well over 100,000 miles and he has done exactally NOTHING to it, except oil changes and tires.
Thanks
Bill

The ATX was upgraded from the factory in '94 over the '93 model. You actually have a stronger starting point with your current tranny than you would if you swapped in one from a '93.

Just an FYI.
