A hint for you colder weather climate owners....

Take a hair dryer, or heat gun and warm up the plastic a bit, just enough to make the plastic more pliable rather than brittle and prone to breakage.

..... and don't just go tug'n on stuff..... look at where those tabs are located and be gentle when applying any type of force.

Typically you won't need all that much to bend in those tabs in order to remove the entire piece itself.

Happy Modding people :munch:

Good tip. I figured that when I have the lower grille removed from the car, it would be a better opportunity to see where the plastic "tabs" are located for removing the cover. I didn't want to blindly tug of the cover and break anything..... I'm far too careful for that ;)

Does any 1 have pics of the upper and lower? Not that I really care, I'm still ordering it

Hey Greg,

The only pics that I've seen are from the SEMA show SHO and the ones that Mobsteel emailed me earlier this week. Here you go:

Looks like the pieces before painting and mesh installed:

P1080224

Here is their car at the SEMA show. Since my car is black, I'm going with the same setup as this. Tuxedo Black for the frame and Powdercoated Black for the Mesh.

Just got back from checking the lower grill for the ACC, Mike and Andrew are both correct (not that I ever doubted them, but I wanted to look for myself). The ACC is a cover and after looking closely, it appears that it will adapt to the MS grill with very little modification. I believe with just a little patience and modding, the ACC cover will work nicely with the Mobsteel grill. Thumbs up to Mike and Andrew!

Just got a message from Adam (sent about 3:15 local time) :
Here's what he had to say:

Adam said:
Talked to Ford got some guidance, and did some research of my own, The sensor is based on radar from what I've read and if i make the pocket on the radar side solid, it should act the same as factory, I am not sure if it will look as good but we will see. I am going to see if I can get a ride from the dealer equipped with acc and try it out. Maybe both sides should be solid to balance it out? I'm sure that there will have to be some disclaimer that if your acc gets damaged that the dealer may not want to warranty it because of the aftermarket grill, etc... Im not liable etc... so I don't want to throw something out there till i know it will be suitable.

Sounds very promising doesn't it..:)

He'll keep me apprised as I will you guys.

Haven't been on today until now -- been busy shopping for a range and sleep set.
Now I"m off to supper with my lovely wife and will chat back here later.

Ciao
Colin.

Thanks Mike! I have that same thing. If I could figure out how to post stuff on here I would have done it! When I was talking to Steve at Mobsteel yesterday he said its a couple hour job in the driveway. The Mobsteel grilles mount in with the factory clips so that's really nice and the lower grille just snaps in.

Great disclosure, Mike -- many thanks for sharing. You're a true enthusiast who cares about his fellow members. I applaud you.

Darell, It sounds like cake.....Only possible issue is the ACC cover issue that Adam will try to resolve for us ACC equipped owners, combined with some creativity from we owners. Anyway, sounds like Adam has a plan.

I really think this is going to work out for us all.

I'm hoping that Adam gets enough business from us to justify all his time and development.(even at $700/set).

For anyone who's wondering - there's nothing in it for me, other than being a customer, except supporting a good and caring supplier -- MobSteel which I'm now thinking is a pretty darn good outfit.

To make this all profitable we need to step up.
Has anyone asked about a group buy from Adam? Would he have to become a site sponsor to be involved with such a thing here?

Did I say my car isn't in yet? I wish to heck it was. I found out today that it's still in the yard at Chicago!!!!! waiting to go out.........

I 'm finding it very hard to be patient but it's a damn good lesson.:)

Removal of the front bumper to access the grille is a major PITA! And don't even think about it if you live in cold weather. It makes it 100xs worse. I did mine in a couple months after I brought it home, right in December to be exact. There are so many little clips to fight with its unbelievable.

At least when its warm out, they should be more forgiving. The factory grille is a three piece part, which I left out one part of mine to increase air flow, and it also snaps in/out. The pieces all snap in/out for it and it sounds like you are breaking everyone you remove. Here are some crappy cell phone snaps shots I took nearly 1 1/2 years ago. Wish I would have taken more but I didn't really do a write up about it either since it was only Kirk and I who at that time had disassembled a new 2010 SHO as soon as we got it.

Of course, I didn't take any back side shots of the grille. Kicking myself now for that. Other than being patient with the tabs and locks, it's a simple task. I'm sure though any grille company selling grilles will have a detailed instruction sheet to help the install, at least I hope so. ;)

@zeus268, thanks for the pics. I'm definitely goin wit the black powder coat mesh. This grille is going to make me want to strip all the badges. I wonder if the mob steel emblem is included? I kinda want 1 without it. Don't wana be explaining what it means or who it is every 5 mins

No emblem is included. I'm glad you're going with the black mesh. When I paint my cladding I dont want our cars to be exactly alike :) I went with the stainless mesh

I think that the black powdercoat mesh would be my choice with the silver cladding as well. That will make your car sooooo sexy! Like Darrel said, the mobsteel badge isn't included. I ordered a small SHO badge for the grille instead.
It's funny that you mentioned stripping the badges cause that's what I was thinking too :)
The Taurus Badge on the trunk will go for sure although I plan on leaving the SHO badge. I'm not sure about the large Ford badge in the middle of the trunk though..... I think I may replace that one with a Black Ford logo if I can find such a thing ....hmmmm

There is such a "thing"......

Your wish is my command (although it looks like he updated his site recently to reflect he's not taking any new orders until after June 1st).... here's the link:

http://planetauto.homestead.com/chromeemblems.html

Hope it's of some help to you :thumb:

Wow Mike! My wish is your command! haha That's exactly what I want. :thankyou:
Although I don't really want to wait another 3 months for it. Perhaps a convincing email may help......

So I emailed Pam at Mobsteel the other day regarding a status on the grille and what was going to happen regarding the ACC equipped cars (such as mine)

Her response was:

"Hi Andrew.

Things are going well and we are working on the grilles currently.
In regards to the Adaptive Cruise control issue, we have come up with 3 options:

1- both sides completely open (for those who do not have that as an option)

2 - One side fiber-glassed closed (for those who do have the option)

3 - Both sides fiber-glassed closed (for those who have the option and want the grille to match on both sides)

It is your choice. I think Adam has a pic of it. I will forward it to you as soon as he gets back in the office.

Let me know which option you choose.

Thanks,
Pam"

I haven't received the pic yet however I am currently torn between Option 2 and 3. Part of me wants some continuity with both sides covered however when I look at my factory grille, the 1 side being covered doesn't really bother me that much..... in fact I kind of like it.
Regardless, I'm going to wait for that aforementioned pic (which I will post immediately) before making my final decision but as usual I would love to hear anyones's thoughts on what they think would look best! :munch:

I'm assuming that the fiberglassing won't affect the function of the ACC.
No mention of colour of F/Glass -- probably good to be black if that's doable and still allow the ACC to function.

Sounds like Adam has a handle on it and you should get your new grill soon.

I personally would go with symmetry (both sides equal) but that's a personal choice.
CAn't wait for you to get it and install it. That should be a pretty nice piece.
I wonder if Adam will bump the price slightly to cover the ACC cover(s).

Let us know what you decide A.

Of course it will depend on how the Mobsteel pictures of their grill look, but I am with you, I kinda like the looks of the one side closed look on the stock grill.

Just received another email from Pam at Mobsteel this morning with an attached picture. :)

Here is the pic.

Let me know which works better for you.

Thanks,
Pam

PS - Feel free to post this on the Forum as well. I have a couple of people's address that I will be sending it to but you want to provide it to all, that would be great.

Pam,

Please email out to the interested parties, I can do it two ways, close of both sides so its balanced or just close off in front of the sensor.

get some feedback.

Thanks, Adam

Mobsteelgrille

After seeing this I'm still leaning towards just closing off the one side. Part of me worries that the open side is open for a reason......
