Glad to hear you ordered up there Andrew........Good man. So the charge was $700 + $75 + Shipping of about ??? $50 USD????

Just wondering bottom line.

I'd love to do this myself and will probably go ahead even without you getting yours first (by the sounds of it)

I'm still waiting for confirmation that my car arrived at Kennedy Ford in Oakville......I think once things settle somewhat, I'll order up too.
Really like the looks of that grill.
Only caveat I have with the mod is with the bottom grill: as with MJ's question about ACC --- I have it -- do you Andrew ?-- if so, what's the scoop?

Glad to help BTW as is everyone who has pitched in......no worries.:)

Colin

Colin,

I didn't get a shipping quote because I had planned on using my Purolator work account to get it here. If Purolator doesn't pick up at that location, Pam said that she could use UPS to ship it to me. I didn't get a shipping quote however she assured me that they don't markup the shipping cost and that the actual price from UPS is what I would pay. More to follow on that later.....
I totally forgot about the use of the Adaptive Cruise with the lower grille. I really like the ACC and do not want to give up this option. Rather than asking as well I will wait on your response from Mobsteel on that point though I'm hoping that it won't be an issue.....

Yeah, Adam said he "could" ask Ford about it and I offered to try from this end too. I'll follow up soon if he doesn't mention it again.
Might be that there needs to be a vacant place in the grill with a dark window for ACC.......we'll see.

I suppose it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to cut the mesh, and somehow affix a dark plexi 'window' for the ACC to be able to see.
I don't know how sensitive it is.

Tell you what you could do Andrew is somehow affix a piece of mesh to the grill that you have now and see how ACC acts.
Might give us some insight into how sensitive it is. and just maybe if we can just add a dark cover behind the new grill for its protection. (without cutting a hole).

Just a thought. I haven't got my car yet or I'd try it....

Many thanks to MJPADI (Mark) for pointing that out......You're a good man Mark....

Yeah, the Mobsteel clan seems to be answering both phone calls and emails now. Just spoke to Pam and Steve. Gonna go check out the shop on Thursday morning and probably order the grilles then. Just trying to decide what to do on my silver car. Black mesh and keep the black cladding and add black wheels or go with the stainless mesh, paint my cladding silver and go with silver wheels...decisions, decisions

Love the silver theme Darreli....but that's a personal thing.

Do you have ACC -- in case you didn't pick up on that in previous threads?

Please post up what you find out and what you decide to do.

Went back and looked over the grill again...it is beginning to grow on me. Another question concerning the grill...will it require removing the entire front facia to install the grill? Also I am curious as to the install procedure...bolt in, plastic rivets? And lastly, I'm just not sure what color I would want the grill, the surround I would like in red, but not sure what color for the mesh to go best with the Candy Red. Plus, I really think I want to do the H&R Springs, and (maybe) the MGP Caliper Covers before the grill. But I have same problem with the caliper covers as with the grill...can't decide on color. I am leaning toward black since that is the color of the calipers, but I also like the satin and the red.:banghd:

Yes you need to remove the fascia. I havent puled mine yet, but I would guess the grill attaches the same way as factory.

Personally I am a fan of Red calipers. We should see if we can set up a group buy on the caliper covers. I want a set too.

For the grill color I will probably go with color matched surround with silver mesh. If I get sick of the silver I will paint or powdercoat it black. Going from silver to black is a lot easier than going black to silver.

x2 on the Red Calipers! I would definitely be in on a group buy......

Ok, back to the ACC issue with this grille. I don't really know how the ACC sensor works however I wanted to find a picture of my cars lower grille to discuss a few things.
I found a picture of a non-ACC equipped Taurus limited shown here:

Taurus 4 door sedan limited fwd grille 100315877 l

On my car with ACC, the left hand side has a black plastic cover over the trapezoidal opening but since this car doesn't have ACC, both trapezoidal openings on either side are clear.
Here is a smaller picture of what my lower grille looks like:

TaurusSHO

Does this mean that the ACC sensor is behind the right hand side of the grille that doesn't have a plastic cover over it? If this is the case, I don't think that we need to worry about the mobsteel grille. If however, the ACC sensor is behind the "blocked" opening, something may need to be used to cover this.....

Can someone with some knowledge of the ACC system chime in?

Yes, the entire front fascia will require removal.

Some months back (when I thought Mobsteel was actually gonna sell this grille like a year ago) I took it upon myself to ask for the detailed printouts directly from FMC in regards to the front fascia removal.

I still have them somewhere if I'm not mistaken. Probably filed away. I'll have to look for them and post them if that's going to be of some help to you guys.

Or you could just be adventurous and start unfastening things and guess at it. LMAO..... I'm guessing no one has the balls (or stomach) for that.

As far as the ACC sensor, yes, for those cars equipped with the ACC, the driver's side (in order to anatomically correct) of the lower grille opening does have a solid cover.

I inquired about this when I ordered my SHO (w/ non-ACC after I learned what it was) I was told that the sensor is directly behind this solid cover.

It's solid in order to protect it from the elements of mother nature.

Since I never thought of this, as my SHO is sans ACC, it was never an issue for me.

But I'd suspect for you guys/gals that do have it, probably are going to need to figure out either relocating the ACC sensor, or possibly come up with some other plan to block and/or cover it so the sensor doesn't crap out on y'all.

Thanks for chiming in Mike. Any printouts that you have regarding the bumper removal would be GREATLY appreciated.
What you said about the location of the ACC sensor is what I feared. I think the solution that I will use will be to cutout the plastic cover from my factory grille and perhaps attach it to the mobsteel grille?
Or perhaps I should contact mobsteel about this before I go any further and see if they can come up with a solution?
I wonder how sensitive the sensor is without being covered? hmmmm

Thnaks for the info! As far as the fascia goes..I guess I just dont' feel like trying to take it off to change the grill (you can read this as too lazy and now that scuba season is here-too busy) I don't dislike the stock grill enough to tackle it.

I always assumed that the ACC stuff was behind the solid (covered) part of the lower grill, since the times I've been on the ground in front of the car (for cleaning and detailing), I never noticed anything on the open side of the lower grill.

I think that I may have one of our guys at the body shop tackle this job for me but I hear you.... it sounds like a bunch of effort. I am, after-all, an IT professional who has no common sense when it comes to such things ;)

Andrew, I will contact MGP and see if they offer a group buy. I will start a thread if I get any feedback.

Thank you very much! I am interested in those Caliper covers! :thankyou:

My friend has ACC on his Lincoln MKX. He told me it quits working in heavy snow/rain, which he said also de-activates regular cruise, if ACC remains turned on. I would guess that the solid cover is mostly to keep the sensor from getting dirty. Only other question I would have is will a metal grille, mesh or otherwise, play havoc with the ACC sensor?

Good points Bob...... This is now starting to get me worried. Perhaps I should only install the top grille? But then there will be the whole "matching" issue all over again. Dammit!

Might be that Ford didn't put any grill there so as not to upset the ACC.
Ford would know and Adam offered that he "could talk to Ford about it".....

Sounds like we better get this straight before starting anything.

Relocating the ACC sensor will be impossible since the openings will be filled with grills and sounds to me like it needs to be protected by the cover that's there now.
Looks like a no go for us ACC'ers.

Disappointing isn't it.

All I can think of doing is sharing our discussion with Adam at Mobsteel and see what he can offer as a solution and find out from FMC.

Andrew I guess you'll be talking to Adam PDQ to discuss your order status etc and to talk about this ACC problem???

Sent another email to Adam to ask his help and for suggestions due to our concerns over ACC. being upset by the grills.

I'll see what he says and post up.

I personally don't think losing the ACC is acceptable for me at all.

From the pics it looks like the cover is attached to the grill. Why not just remove the mesh from the MS grill where the cover goes, remove the cover from the oem grill and attach it to the MS grill? Seems pretty simple to me.

It seems like a lot of work just to install the new grill, plus after spending close to 800+ (with shipping and SHO badge) I don't know how wild I would be able having to try to "piece" together the lower grill. IMHO.
