Well I guess the Alanisdeals coils aren't bullet-proof after all . . .

Don't ask me why, but I was trying to keep up with a G37 yesterday on the way home, and the strain placed on the motor must have been too much. Afterward, I noticed a stumble during light to moderate acceleration from a stop, and it continued today. It felt as if the MAF or IAC were disconnected. Popped a SES on the way home, and found out it was a misfire on cylinder #5 (fortunately on the front bank). Years ago, when I was having misfire issues, I replaced all 8 with a set of Alanisdeals (ebay seller) COPs. I did keep the 8 originals.

Is there any reason I can't try out an older Motorcraft COP in place of the bad Alanisdeals one? I have a 87.5% chance of picking a working one after all.

Nope.I would. I forget is that the front or rear bank? When I had my 97 I had a bad experience and went through many Alanisdeals COPs.

Swapped out #5 coil pack, which I realized midstream is the one with only one bolt holding it on. Runs fine now.

No. I just attributed it to poor quality components and the dang heat that little mill puts off. I had one or two go bad within a few months and replaced all the ones in the rear bank with Ford units I cobbled together from the interwebs and an old unit or 2 I had saved just in case.

Was your appearance cover on during all this? I imagine having it on would warm the front bank a bit more than having it off. Mine's been off for a long time now (ever since going through several IMRCs)

Through some of it. I had failures on both banks but I was trying to swap all the rears at the same time to avoid pulling the intake and all that. Eventually I left the cover off. Just threw it away a few months ago along with one from for a GTP. Both of which I got rid of a few years ago.

If it wasn't such a PITA with the football and aftermarket stereo installs I would have considered another GenIII. One time around modifying the space underneath for a head unit was enough for me
