couldnt really think of a title that explained the problem...

heres the problem, when im say, sitting in 3nd at about 3K and i floor it my revs go up, but my speed stays the same. ive been getting to like 5500 before i even gain a single MPH. once it gains a few MPH itll change gears (atx) and then it starts pullin like mad, but why the delay when i floor it? its almost like something is "spooling" up like a turbo might cept its not turbo. i hear the secondaries opening but dont notice any change in speed jsut the RPMs gain faster till 5500 or so when it finally gets up and goes. is something wrong or is it just taking time for momentum to gain and start going?

Transmission specialist. Expect to shell out a couple grand. Sorry dude. I'm guessing your whole tranny is going to have to be rebuilt.

well as long as it runs ill let it slip till i get money. just bought a suspension and a half (part of it got stolen so had to re-buy) so ive got like no money to spend being 17 years old.

but if ur a transmission specialist are there different types of trannys i could buy? like a ford rebuild, a jasper i just saw mentioned in a different post? anything?

There isn`t going to be any cheap way out of it.You might make it a few more weeks, but it`ll keep getting worse.

Have you run your codes? My buddies 95 ATX did the exact same thing... It turned out to be a bad MAF, and oxygen sensors... In fact we said the same thing about the spooling feeling.

and drivinhard, my summer project is making it a manual anyways so i really dont want to buy a new tranny (probably wasnt going to unless i had to drive around with a max speed of 1, 2 is acceptable:) but i know a guy who has all the parts and tools and knowhow and time and eagerness to help me do it for 500 bucks :) so :p
plus its all rebuilt stuff so i wont need to do that crap either :)

A bad MAF wil throw a code.If the rpm`s go up,but the car doesn`t move,it must be the tranny.A MAF can`t make the tranny slip.

Damn, I'm sorry. That same thing happened to me about year and half ago (About 90K miles.) If you want to try to make it last a little longer, make sure you drive VERY carefully, and try to keep the overdrive button turned OFF. This will keep it from making extra upshifts and downshifts for overdrive. One way, or the other, it will probably go out very soon, though. Start saving $$$.

The tranny project sounds cool, keep us updated, of course. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will last for you. If you really don't want to spend the cash to fix it before you remake the tranny, just go buy a POS for like a couple hundred bucks. You should be able to make a '86 VW golf or something like that last through the next few months

This is what the problem was. His car had the EXACT symptoms and it was the maf. If his car is going up in RPM's but is running lean because of the MAF, then it won't move, so I wouldn't necessarily be so quick to through blmae on the tranny.
