So, get stuff ready to get back into a sho again. I have a set of chromies off of my 98. Talked to a powder coating company today and they can't do the center cap/section of the wheel because it's plastic.

Any solutions other than painting? I am going to get them coated glossy black, and would like the center caps to match.

Is anyone aware of steel center caps, or any other way to accomplish this?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Never been metal centercaps on Tauruses that I know of. Use gloss black wheel paint, it'll be fine. Or you could just leave the centercaps off, that's how I've been running my '97 wheels for years - I like the look better.

edit: Actually come to think of it some slo (Taurus SE) wheels might have metal. They are polished with the ford oval in the middle... I have a set out in the junk shed I've been meaning to throw on slicers.. I don't know if they would work with gen 3 wheels though, the lugs wouldn't be visible that's for sure.

For the slicers, the trick was to get a set of metal caps from a 10-hole Mustang rim. They had a Ford logo in the center.

Not sure if they're the right size for your rims, though. What is the diameter of the cap? For slicers, the face is just shy of 7" and the inside diameter for the part that clips on is about 6.5".

When I tap on mine, ('97), they sound metal.... Hmmm did the '96 and '97's come with metal caps and maybe the later ones had plastic?

By the way, does the Dodge truck pictured have "chrome clad" wheels?
My Bro-in-law has a 2008 Dodge Ram Laramie with the factory 20's and they are "chrome clad", according to the factory, which basically means the chrome that you see is actually a plastic cover that is bonded to the wheel.

I had some painted rattle can gloss black and it held up well. They are all chrome plated plastic. Too bad the chrome doesn't stick to the aluminum wheel as well.

Had some chromies powder coated black too. The PC only worked on two of the rims, on the other two even after a recoat had flacking issues on the shiny smooth non flacking part of the chrome.

My white slicers are powder-coated, plastic center caps and all. Maybe try a different shop?

I have seen the plastic centercaps powdercoated, if it is done carefully and correctly it shouldnt be a problem to get done

Keep watching flea-bay. I bought a few off there but none recently. Or put up a wanted to buy listing in the classified section. I had a bunch of them and sold them to Willie back in July. He might have a few spares. I forget what his screen name is here.

Yeah it does. I got a gash in one of them and you can see the wheel is actually whiteish underneath. I was getting tires put on when the guys mentioned this. Looks like a plate you could just take off.
