Hey all,

Just an update with a odd twist. Car has been a gem not needing a dollar, except front pads(literally happened last night).

Runs very strong, no trans issues, super comfy, getting 15-20mpg, starts every time.

Im considering trading a co-worker for his 98 mustang gt 5spd (I know I know). He needs a front drive for the winter and digs the car. I miss the 5spd always liked those bodies, first car i ever drove, uncle had a 95gt. I will miss the stealth, uniqueness, and 7k shifts on the sho. Oh that sound!

Mustang needs a 3-4 shift fork(Ill fix it or I sourced a $250 trans) has a bama tuner, full length headers h pipe cat back under drive pulleys 3:73 rear short throw, cai, all the bolt ons. 130,000.

Opinions thoughts?? Go for it or what is wrong with you.

Well, it really depends pretty much totally on what you want. The two vehicles are so totally different as to not really have much in the way of comparison other than their proximate age and manufacturer. If the manual transmission is really important to you, go for the Mustang. If a unique and increasingly rare stealth car outweighs that, stick with the SHO.

You have a 99 SHO (I am surprised they sold any, let alone the low number they did) with a good transmission and welded cams.
What else would you ever want?
You have solved all the problems and spent a lot of time and some money.
If it were me, I would keep it, as all the hard stuff is done.

The Mustang is appealing because maintenance is incredibly easy compared to a SHO, and any replacement parts are made by no less than 30 companies. So what Stephen Newburg said is true, the two cars could not be further apart (in use, and maintenace, and parts supply).

I do not like the sound of the shifter fork needing attention. No matter what you do, the tranny has to come out, and how can that be a good time.

The kid in me wants to do burnouts and drift and shift, the adult in me wants the supple low key, safer, more unique ride.
We'll if anything it is nice to have options.
Haven't made up my mind....if do trade it won't be the last sho i own. We're gonna swap rides this Monday that will give me a good feel of what my commute would be.

You guys nailed it, Maintaince is cheap and parts are abundant for a mustang that darn ax4n keeps me up at night.

If the transmission is not mistreated, it lasts extremely well. Mine is now at over 200K with zero problems, but it has been to the track only once and never gets stop light raced. This is not a burn out car. If you are doing that sort of thing, yes, the transmission will likely keep you up nights. If you treat it like the series 3 BMW it was designed to compete with, it just keeps on ticking. :)

Thanks stephen logical thoughts needed to hear that 200k statement. So I put brakes on it today. You all probably know the next sentence already. So the car had the wrong discs and pads. I just got about an inch more rotor for 60 bucks! Talk about cheap brake upgrade. They feel awsome now.

I'm leaning toward keeping the SHO.

Stephen I never do burnouts in any FWD
Set up.(maybe 3or4 in my gen 2)

Ya, a lil wrench time with the SHO and I remembered why I love it so much. Big Thing I live in North east PA with the salt and winters every car just gets eaten up.

This 99 SHO is in way better shape than my wife's 2011 rogue w 41k on it. I mean no rust....this is a major rarity in my region. I've never owned a car where the fenders, bottom of the doors, or unibody did not have some sign of rust.

I think I'm gonna buy the 98 stang for 1800-2200 get a trans for 300 bucks...and flip it. (After I enjoy it for a lil bit)

Hey thanks for the input guys. PS the mustang crew is just not my crowd. SHO and the forum fits me, my style, and personality way more.

Thanks SHOdded, but no mustang for me. It's much more boring than that, paying off the wife's ride. She claims I get to pick the next car..... we'll see ha. She's only at 40,000 so she'll be good for a while. Maybe a GEN 4 SHO....won't be till spring or next summer. Time to save and work OT.

Hey gang,

Update on this story of a genIII rising from the ashes. So the car has been sold to the mustang owners brother I was going to trade with ironically enough. Guy loves the car (purchased to keep miles off his 32 valve late 90s cobra) running well, hit 135 with it.......couple weeks in the old turd ax4n takes a dump...I feel horribly for him and throw a couple bills back to him.

He preceded to rebuild the trans, needed torque converter, valve body, and solenoid. 1700 bucks FYI, susquehanna county PA.

Has new mufflers and sounds awsome!

Another gen3 lives on in the hands of a true car guy......and that's the end of the story. Thank all you SHO heads out there for helping with this project, could not have done it with out the SHO forum. Health, wealth, happiness, and horsepower to all of you!
