I noticed that my 93 SHO ATX started losing power at acceleration. The engine also shakes really bad, thus shaking the car. I checked all three front plugs to find tons of oil in each cylinder! Yikes! What does this mean...worn out rings? I wasn't getting visible smoke out of the pipes until i checked the plugs...then ****! Lots of blue smoke.

The big question...does this call for engine overhaul? Is it safe to drive car in this condition for awhile? Car has 108K miles. Thanks for your help!

1.) Welcome. Don't panic.

2.) Extremely common problem. Need new valve cover gaskets which include new seals for the plug wells. $72 from Autozone.com.

Make absolutely certain that ALL oil is removed from the plug well BEFORE removing the spark plug.

For more details, click on the SEARCH and look for "Oil spark plug" in this forum.

Quick question
am i allowed to re-torque these valve cover gaskets multiple times? lets say i replace them now and decide to do valve lash a month from now, do i have to buy a new set of gaskets?
What about the intake manifold gaskets? is it absolutely necesary to replace those whenever taking the manifold appart?

No, the molded rubber valve cover seals and spark plug well seals are good for multiple services. The primary limiting factor on the seal's lifetimes are age and heat. I consider the seals operable for about 120,000 miles, or every other upper 60K service. The intake manifold's metal shim type gaskets are also reuseable until the black finish chips. Those gaskets are available for about $12.50 each from FordPartsNetwork.com or FordPartsOnline.com.

I suffered the same fate, except for the smoke. I had the same shuddering, but once I replaced the plugs, the shuddering was gone, power went way up, and gas mileage has returned to normal.

If there is oil in your plug wells and you will be taking the valve covers off, I say buy the 60k video and do at least the top end of the 60k while your in there. Will save you time for dismantling and if you don't know how to take of the intake then the video is awesome.
