So had the day off yesterday and started breaking engine down. When I pulled intake off there was oil and a sandy mess in one off the port holes so seems my cats might off taken a crap. There wasnt very much though so is this salvageable if I clean it all up and start over with clean cylinders.

If that was converter dust, your engine would be beyond shot at this point, compression across all 6 cylinders would be single digits at best

Mine looked the same way when I took the intake off. You can thank the PCV (no valve) for this. Just soak it down with carb cleaner and take your time while cleaning the ports on the heads try not to get too much shit down inside the cylinders, I used a vacuum with the same straw I used to suck oil out of the wells with. Eventually I removed all/most of the crap in the ports. Actually yours looks pretty good, Ive seen worse. You got it this far might as well take the butteries off and clean the horns and everything. Like I said, take your time.

I would do a "leak down" test just to be sure, since you mentioned the cats being bad.

I would replace the gasket with another gasket. I am thinking that silicone will get soft when the engine heats up or when the temps under the hood get pretty high. Possible vacuum leak?

That does look like the typical EGR/PCV mixtures that gets thrown through the intake system and caked to the walls
