Hello I have a 93 SHO with the factory JBL premium sound system (auto cassette deck) Im looking to add either an alpine or pioneer head unit and possibly replace the speakers/amp/sub as well. What would anyone recommend in terms of speakers/amp/sub(s)? Im looking to spend as little as possbile (im a big ebayer). How difficult would this all be? and if I were to only replace the cassette deck with a cd player how would the sound quality be?
any replies welcomed....
thanks

I replaced my stock AM/FM/CD/Cassette with a Pioneer head unit. I bypassed the amps because it did not sound very well using them. With bypassing the amps, you cannot use the factory sub because the sub amp gets the signal from the 4-channel amp. It sounds okay with the stock speakers and no sub.

What I am doing next is adding an 8" DVC sub, a small sub amp, and replacing the stock speakers. I will use the factory sub box by boring out the hole to fit an 8" sub. My friend recently did a set up similar and it sounded very, very clean.

Well as for how easy it would be to do it, well if have basic knoledge of electrical stuff you can do it. The more you do though the harder it will get. If you were to only replace the head unit it would be better but I would would recomend changing the speakers as you would notic ethe differnce. Going to a 4channel amp again will be very good and if you like a little bases upgrading the sub would be good to.
As for recomendations, Pioneer is pretty good for speakers as they just came out with a new line. They are not to expensive either. Infinity is pretty good but expensive. Alpine and Kenwood are good as well. For amps you do not want to go cheap as it will show in the quality. Alpine is pretty good as well as Kenwood. A good sub amp would be MTX or Rockford. For subs MTX is good and cheap, Kicker is good as well. Pioneer is okay and cheap.
If you are in Souhtern California I would be happy to help you find parts and install them.

It all depends on what you want from your system. Are you a bassaholic or an audiophile? As far as speakers go I like JL Audio.
I had two 10w1's in my SHO in a sealed box powered by a Kenwood amp bridged at 2 ohms good for 150w. I paid, if I remember correctly, $125CDN each and something like $200CDN dollars or so for the amp. Another $100 for the sub box and that was it. I'm sure in the US prices are even lower. Sounded damn good too. So good in fact that someone broke into my car and took it. At least they left the car. thumbs_u

if you want to spend as little as possible, try US Acoustics, they aren't the best amp on the market but certainly are very good for their price, I've only heard good things about the amps. Soon I will be able to tell you first hand how they are. You can check them out on ebay, they're on there sometimes and can get a 4 channel 65watt RMS amp for around 100 or less. I would also recommend Alpine headunits, they are certainly some of the best, but can be pretty expensive. JL audio deffinately has good subs, I've heard some in a SHO and was certainly impressed.

I will second US Acoustics on quality for the price. I just installed a USX-4065 runnig 4 Infinity Kappa 6 1/2's, and saying that I am pleased is an understatment. I got the amp or $125 on sounddomain.com on clearance. It puts out decent power for the money.

i dont know your budget...but i put a sweet aiwa head unit in for $120..then put 3 10's with a 600w legacy amp and a box for about 250... lots of bass: but two 10's sounds better in my opinion...
id just get the head unit and some 3-way 7x10's for the back

for head unti definatly go with a alpine or pioneer they are the best out there (without going rly high range stuff) if they are still too expensive go with kenwood i love mine. also leave the stock speakers in they are actually pretty decent for a good system when you hook everyhtign up and should be the last thing you change. As for amps and subs i picked up a cadence q4000 four channel amp for 150 off ebay and i bought my subs and box from a online store that builds custom boxes for 150 i can get you the guys email if you like. check them all out at...http://www.sounddomain.com/id/shadow102
